How do we do this? There are many practices that help us, such as prayer, Scripture study, and acts of charity. But perhaps the best way is by receiving the gift of the Eucharist, where we and Christ abide together in the most intimate of ways. Think about your experience of the Eucharist. What has this sacrament meant to you? Sometimes we fall into the habit of approaching the Eucharist in a mechanical manner. ext time you are at Mass, pray to experience Christ in you more deeply as you receive his Body and Blood. The Catholic schools in our parish will engage in a series of events to celebrate the ongoing gift of publicly funded Catholic education. You are invited to discover what celebrations are happening in your children s school and if possible, attend. Publicly funded Catholic education has existed in Ontario since 1841 and its graduates have served Ontario and Canada very well. The current generation of students in our publicly funded Catholic schools will serve with the same spirit and generosity as their previous generations. This year s Catholic Education Week theme is enewing the Promise. Embracing our Faith Community and Giving Thanks! When: Sunday, May 6th at oon, following the 11:00 AM Mass Holy edeemer s Liturgy of the Word with Children is hosting a Family Parish BBQ, with food donated and prepared by the K of C, following the oon Mass on May 5th. Come one, come all! Let s join together as we celebrate as community, families of all kinds, school and Church! This is a time to recognize the importance of our faith community; meet and socialize with fellow parishioners; and welcome those who have recently celebrated their 1st Communion! These three documents, while several years apart from each other, all speak of the unique mission of Ontario Catholic education, the importance of its shared leadership by all those involved in Catholic education and the critical role of Catholic education in contemporary society. Catholic Education Week 2018 combines the themes of reconciliation, solidarity, love, justice and ecology. The CEW biblical quote is For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him. (This will replace the 4:15 Mass that day) This is a special opportunity for those who wish to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. This Sacrament was once known as Extreme Unction and was reserved for those who were approaching death. This is not so today. The sacrament of the sick is available for anyone who suffers. For example, those who are elderly and whose frailty is becoming more pronounced; those who are suffering from a major illness, are facing surgery, serious medical tests or have suffered a serious accident; those who suffer from chronic illness such as arthritis or diabetes, or who suffer from a serious mental illness. Despite the ice, rain and snow that threatened the evening, our supporters came through in full force. A grand total of $1,500 will go towards the fundraising efforts of phase two of our roof campaign. On Friday May 11th, from 10 am to 1:30pm, some Art Students from Barrydowne College, an alternative school with the ainbow District School Board, will be creating original works of art at St. Andrew the Apostle Church s Hall. The ministers, priests and lay representatives of the ortheast Ministerial Association will also be creating original works of art alongside them. We invite you, as well, to join us in using your artistic talents to create a work of art that can be auctioned off the following day, May 12th at 3 PM, with the proceeds benefitting the art programme at Barrydowne College. Gerry Lougheed Jr. has generously volunteered to be the auctioneer. The students will be able to keep half of the proceeds from their sold artwork as a way to encourage their artistic talents.
