2 Diocese of Salford Office for Liturgy H O L Y R E D E E M E R P A R I S H N E W S "Your liberation is near at hand." As usual, the great Season of Advent begins, not by talking about Christmas, but about the Second Coming. We ve had this theme already for the past two weeks, but there is a slight change of emphasis in the Scripture readings offered for this Sunday: here the tone is positive: it is the promise of what is to come that we contemplate. Even in the Gospel, though it talks of the dreadful signs that mark the end times, we hear of a promise liberation. For this we should stand erect and hold our heads high. The central theme is that we welcome the coming of a person - Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah, and this is what links this Sunday to the coming feast of his birth: we are now preparing to celebrate how he once came: may these preparations also help us to prepare for him when he comes again. Children s Advent Wreath Making Celebration, This Sunday at 12 Noon All children and their families are invited to join in the lower hall as we gather to bring in advent with the making of a wreath following the 11 am Mass. Fun & Food will be provided! Last call for a tasty meal to help us reach our goal! The songs of Taizé are chants which are repeated to provide us with a meditative atmosphere. Taizé also involves the symbols of cross and light. It is a way to move to stillness to connect with our God and with each other, and to hear and feel the love of God within each of us. Additional Times for Reconciliation at Holy Redeemer Parish Advent is a season to prepare for Christmas. In our tradition one of the ways we do this is through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As we have done in the past we are offering additional opportunities for reconciliation before Christmas. Extra Confession Times at H.R. Tuesday Dec. 15 5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. Parish Offering Envelopes 2016 The new boxed sets of envelopes for 2016 are now available at the back of the church. N.B. For some people Boxed Envelope Numbers have changed. This is to help minimize waste of boxed envelopes purchased for the upcoming year! Upcoming practice times for the 8pm Christmas Eve Mass Wed. Dec. 2nd following 7 PM Mass Additional practices forthcoming All voices and musicians welcome! Share your talents! Please take your boxed set home. Verify your name and address on the top of the box and notify the parish office of any errors. *We need your current address when we prepare income tax receipts in the new year. PLEASE ensure you leave with the correct box. It is with immense gratitude and support that we provide this specified gift donation of $50, to your Raise the Roof Fund. We know it is imperative to have a safe, accessible, and sound facility to carry out the ministry and programs you offer to so many in our community. Since the foundation of Holy Redeemer Parish the pastors, parishioners, Knight of Columbus and Catholic Women s League have been supportive to our ministry at the Family Enrichment Centre. We have for many years been the recipients of your fundraising efforts, both financially and spiritually. As part of our dissolution process in closing our ministry, our Board of Directors looked toward assisting another charity in their ministry to those in need. It was a unanimous decision of our Board of Directors to provide this specified gift donation to support Holy Redeemer s Campaign. Our ministry at the Family Enrichment Centre was founded on continuing the healing mission of Jesus. We pray that each of you will continue to bring the good news of hope and healing to those in need within our community. We wish you abundant blessings. Sincerely yours, John Hartman Board Treasure Sr. Josie McKechnie, Ph.D., C.Psyc Executive Director Parishioners using the Pre-Authorized Donation Program (PADP) do not receive envelopes, however, if you wish to make extra donations, simply write your name and phone # on any regular envelope or a blue multi-purpose envelope found at the back of the church and you will be credited for income tax purposes. Sudburians and the Refugee Crisis In recent days I have been impressed and inspired by the love, compassion and generosity of Sudburians regarding the global refugee crisis. In many conversations I have heard similar questions about process, resources and opportunities. In discussion with Jim Gordon (former Mayor), we decided a community luncheon might be helpful to share information and look at the big picture locally. To this end I am sponsoring a lunch on Wednesday, December 2 nd 2015 at 12 noon in the downstairs hall at St. Mary s Ukrainian Catholic Church on Notre Dame Ave. Jim Gordon will be the presenter with help from municipal, provincial and federal representatives. There is no charge for the lunch. The meeting is scheduled from 12 noon 1:15 p.m. all are welcome.
