2 H O L Y E D E E M E N o wonder the early church from the very beginning chose the first day of the week for breaking bread celebrating Eucharist. This is why, for us, Eucharist breaking of bread is so pivotal; here we encounter the risen Jesus, share in his meal, and become ourselves the risen Presence for others. Here we engage the dying and rising that is the pattern of our everyday living. Here we engage the mystery of salvation so powerfully that we are shaken out of our limited vision and begin to see ourselves and others as God sees us. Others in our faith community reflect back to us the reality that Jesus is alive and among us, because he is within us. The vision of others, their deep faith, their caring and sharing are all recognizable signs that The Lord has truly been raised. We must persevere in our belief. This will replace the 4:15 Mass that day. This is a special opportunity for those who wish to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. This Sacrament was once known as Extreme Unction and was reserved for those who were approaching death. This is not so today. The sacrament of the sick is available for anyone who suffers. For example, those who are elderly and whose frailty is becoming more pronounced; those who are suffering from a major illness, are facing surgery, serious medical tests or have suffered a serious accident; those who suffer from chronic illness such as arthritis or diabetes, or who suffer from a serious mental illness. If you know anyone who is suffering and/or is homebound, please assist them in attending this Mass. eception to follow in the parish hall. To ensure Holy edeemer is accessible to all we will continue to use the entrance by the choir. Your accessibility remains a top priority at Holy edeemer! We will work on other strategies to rectify the issue with the choir entrance during the colder months. 5 H O L Y E D E E M E P A I S H N E W S Information UPDATE to All Brother Knights of Council #10888 Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we struggle with doubts and misunderstandings about the mystery of the resurrection (gospel). The gospel shows us the many ways Christ comes to keep us walking along the path to life in prayer and conversation, in reflection on Scripture, in the breaking of the bread. In Psalm 16 we proclaim these are not chance encounters but the concrete and constant ways God shows us the path of life. Excerpt taken from pinionmarc.com 5 Holy edeemer oman Catholic Church Our Council s 25th Anniversary Celebrations have been finalized for your enjoyment. The festivities will be held on Tuesday June 6th, 2017 at the lower hall of the Caruso Club. Our ceremonies will begin at 5:30 P.M. with cocktails and buffet to follow at 6:00 P.M. Tickets will be available at our remaining Council meetings and through the office of Holy edeemer. Tickets will be sold at a cost of $5 per individuals. Members and their escorts are cordially invited to attend.
6 H O L Y E D E E M E P A I S H N E W S 2017 Paschal Candle Once again we are grateful to Lisa Mirabelli who has taken the time to design and paint our Paschal Candle for At the Easter vigil the candle was lit from the newly blessed fire. All tickets through Holy edeemer have now been purchased. Thank you to all who responded to the call! We look forward to sharing in the summit with YOU! Where: St. Charles College, off Falconbridge d. Check-in starts at 6:15 pm Friday, May 12: 7:00 pm 9:30 pm Saturday, May 13: 9:00 am 4:30 pm LUNCH POVIDED FEE ON SATUDAY Kick off to Catholic Education Week at H.. ~ April 30th, 2017 May the light of Christ, rising in glory, dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds. The Easter Vigil is the highlight of the ecclesiastical year. Everything that Jesus said and did is only given meaning by his resurrection. The lighting of the Easter candle in a dark church symbolizes Jesus, our only Light. That light is passed from one person to the next, as the candles of all the faithful are lit and the entire church is illuminated by candlelight. The paschal candle takes its honored place next to the ambo for the fifty days of the Easter Season as it represents the presence of the isen Christ in our midst. The candle will then assume its place next to the Baptismal Font and its regular re-location to the center aisle of the church to burn before the casket during funeral liturgies. Thank you Lisa for your generous gift! 8 The two disciples on the road to Emmaus had given up on Jesus the Nazarene as the one to redeem Israel. But the risen Jesus searched them out, walked with them, broke bread with them. Their encounter led to an overwhelming transformation moving them from unbelief to belief. Further, after returning to Jerusalem, their newfound belief is confirmed by a community who attests that The Lord has truly been raised. We must choose this same journey today, over and over again: encounter the risen Jesus, come to deeper belief, witness to others his risen Presence.
