3 H O L Y R E D E E M E R P A R I S H N E W S May 31st: Pilgrimage at Sudbury Grotto O Lord, we thank you for allowing us to celebrate this feast which reminds us of your going before us to heaven. Allow us to serve your people until the day when we celebrate together the joy of your Kingdom, where you live and reign forever and ever. Amen. First Communion Candidates Come Joyfully to the Table of the Lord.. In a spirit of unity and faith we celebrate as our 1st Communion Candidates come to the Table of the Lord. Over the next few weeks, during the Sunday Masses you will witness children celebrating the Sacrament for the very first time. Please remember each of them in prayer on this special day! On Sunday, June 7th they will all gather for a special Mass of Thanksgiving to honor their new life in Christ! May they be one in us as we are in Him! For Kids: 5-12 yrs. When: July Time: 9:00-3:00 Cost: $40/child Snacks & Crafts Included! Limited space! At the amazing SonSpark Labs, children will explore God s life-changing plan as they find out the answers to life s most important questions. They will discover that God loves them and that through Jesus they can be members of God s family and personally experience God s plan for each of us GP4U=J! 3 Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church The Liturgy Committee invites you to a Pilgrimage at the Grotto. Sunday, May 31, 2015 Meet at the Grotto at 1:30 p.m. Walk the labyrinth, tour, sit and pray! Refreshments to Follow (the event will take approximately 1 hour) What is a Labyrinth? Labyrinths are found in many cultures and spiritual traditions and are being rediscovered worldwide. Based on the circle and the spiral, the labyrinth is an ancient and powerful symbol of wholeness and transformation. Unlike a maze, the labyrinth has only one path leading into and back out of the centre. Labyrinths invite us to quiet the mind, calm the body, and stir the spirit on a journey of presence. Walking a labyrinth is a contemplative prayer. It is meant to be travelled as a holy journey on sacred ground with open heart and mind.

All monies must be received by May 24th, 2015 to be submitted to the diocese by a given deadline. Please continue to pray for all victims of this catastrophe. Sickness, if we let it, can turn us away from God, self and others by giving in to fear, anxiety, loneliness or despair. The Holy Spirit comes through healing oil to give us courage, comfort, strength and openness. That is the healing God always gives. PLEASE NOTE: May 26th The TUESDAY 4:15 P.M. Mass will instead take place at, 11:00 A.M. (see below) Roses for Right to Life-Thank You! The Knights of Columbus wish to thank all who donated in support of the Right to Life campaign. Together, a total of $500 was raised and will be donated to Sudbury Right to Life. A special thank you also to the knights who volunteered their assistance last Sunday during each of the masses. Elevate is an attempt to bring neighboring churches together to work alongside one another with Community Action Networks to love our neighbours together in the name of Christ. Last year 40 churches participated over a weekend engaged in numerous community service projects, with the Sunday culminating in a worship service which combined song, prayers, scripture and testimonies with pictures and videos of what was accomplished together in Greater Sudbury. Elevate 2015 Love in Motion week is May ending on Pentecost Sunday, May 24th. All are invited to a city wide ecumenical prayer time at Glad Tidings Church from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Bishop Plouffe will be the guest speaker. It is hoped that once again churches and volunteers will work in tandem showing our love in motion throughout the city. M ass with Anointing of the Sick will take place at Holy Redeemer Parish on Tuesday, May 26th at 11:00 A.M. This is a special opportunity for those who wish to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. This Sacrament was once known as Extreme Unction and was reserved for those who were approaching death. This is not so today. The sacrament of the sick is available to all who are ill. For example, those who are elderly and whose frailty is becoming more pronounced; those who are enduring a major illness, are facing surgery, serious medical tests or have suffered a serious accident; those who suffer from chronic illness such as arthritis or diabetes, or who have a serious mental illness. If you know anyone who is suffering and/or is homebound, please assist them in attending this Mass. A Reception will follow in the parish hall. 5 Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church

Immediately many countries rush in food, medicine, blankets, money and trained people. Prominent among such aid is the financial help offered by the Holy Father to people in need. In the name of Catholics everywhere, he displays Christ s love and compassion for those who suffer. Each year at this time, Canadian Catholics are asked to give generously to this papal collection, which is passed on to the Holy Father for his use among those stricken by natural disasters. A Message from Robyn Rachkowski, parishioner of Holy Redeemer & elected secretary for the World Issues Club at St. Charles College... The St. Charles College World Issues Club is a student run and founded organization. We want to encourage young people like ourselves to be informed, responsible global citizens who care about the issues of our times, and who make an effort to do something about it. In spirit of the club's purpose, we are hosting our first annual charity gala "Change" to fundraise and promote for some of Sudbury's locally run non-profit organizations, and will also be showcasing Red Cross in light of the recent earthquake in Nepal. "Change" will give each organization the chance to address the community, showcase their mission and raise awareness for their cause. The night will also feature musical performances from some of St. Charles' music students and dinner will be provided. Semi formal wear is encouraged. 7 Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church
