5 Development and Peace St Ignatius Parish, University of Sudbury at Laurentian University is sponsoring 3 events in support of the Development & Peace Fall Campaign, Share the Journey highlighting the issue of refugees and migrants across the globe. On Monday, January 28 th, the movie, Human Flow will be shown at 6 pm in Room 110 at the University of Sudbury. On Tuesday, January 29, a round table on Canadians, Refugees & Migrants Now: The Challenge of Sharing the Journey will be held in Canisius Hall at University of Sudbury from 6-9 pm. On Wednesday, January 30, an interactive experience (bilingual), Journey into Exile: An experience into the life of a Refugee will occur in Canisius Hall at the University of Sudbury from 4 5:30 pm. (Isa 62:1) Synonymous with Jerusalem is the term Zion. The prophet today is therefore expressing his desire that the purpose of Jerusalem be fulfilled! ---that peace reign down from heaven to earth! ---that peace reside within each and every person s heart! Isaiah was prophesying to Jews at the time, because Jerusalem was where all their hopes resided. It was there that the Messiah would come and bring about a new world order. But as persons who believe that Jesus was that Messiah, we who bear the name Christian must therefore work for the realization of that peace by striving for real justice in our world. We can t have one without the other. They are intimately connected. But there s good news! We don t have to do it alone either. We can and must work with our elder brothers in the faith --our Jewish friends-- and with our Muslim brothers and sisters as well, for all three faiths believe in the centrality of the city of Peace for the actual establishment of the peace that the Lord wants to bestow upon our world. What can we as a church do to bring about greater peace in our families, our local communities, our worldwide church, our world? What can we do to achieve inner peace ourselves and a greater consciousness of our role in bringing about that peace, person by person? A pastoral pondering as we begin our second week of Ordinary Time.
