Like the eyewitness accounts in today's scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing "Alleluia!" In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John's Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives? Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. THE RETURN OF EASTER The return of Easter should be to the Christian life the call of a trumpet. It is the news of a great victory. It is the solution of a great perplexity. (John 20:23) Confession need not be limited to a priest in the confessional. Confess a mistake you've made to your child. Is there anyone they have hurt and can ask forgiveness from? Especially consider siblings.. ~ 2017 by Susan Vogt. Why do we change the subject or shy away from calling or visiting with people who are grieving? Why do we try so hard to avoid these stories of grief? When people share stories of grief, they re actually revealing truths about love. Tales of loss, abandonment, and dreams deferred reveal a much larger and deeper reality about human connection and compassion. Part of the reason is we don t know what to say. Part of the reason is it reminds us of our own losses and unhealed pain. How to get through Grief...1. Talk about it with someone who will not judge. 2. Accept your feelings, being angry, anxious, afraid, despondent, confused are all part of the grieving process. 3. Practice Patience it can take years. Give yourself time to learn what your new life without your loved one will be like. Easter Blessing of Families On Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, Bishop David Zubik together with his brothers Auxiliary Bishop William Waltersheid and Retired Auxiliary Bishop William Winter will welcome families of the Diocese of Pittsburgh to the Annual Blessing of Families at Saint Paul Cathedral in Oakland at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to the Cathedral to receive this special Blessing imparted by our bishops as they also take the opportunity to thank families for the beautiful witness of love and faith that they share with us. This trip has SOLD OUT! We will be Meeting at 6:00AM on the day of the trip in the Lower Parking Lot at the CCD Building. We will return about 9:30-10:00PM that evening. See you then! Ireland, Land of Mystics & St. Patrick, September 6-16, 2018 Perhaps you have seen the recent flier in a Pittsburgh Paper this past Sunday about trips to Ireland. The prices seem much lower than St. Mary s. Well yes, that s what it seems, but the air fare is not included. So when you tack on the air fare to the prices as listed in the paper, ours is still a bargain. So don t hesitate. Plus we have a few more places to explore in the Emerald Isle. And being a church excursion, we will visit the Shrine at Knock, famous for its apparition of Our Lady in Ireland, something a secular tour won t include. Just remember we try to make it not only memorable, but inspirational. $400 deposit/ person due by April 27,2018 to hold spot. $1200 pmt due May 4th, and final pmt due by June 27th, $3450 per person for trip (Based on min. 20). Monday April 9th, :30-8:00PM in the Church Hall Understanding how to communicate and have dialogue with your loved on who has Alzheimer s disease or related dementia. 3. Monday May 7th, :30-8PM in the Church Hall Understanding Behaviors (Expressions of Emotion) of a loved on who has Alzheimer s or related dementia. What do I do next? The 2018 Pascal Candle was donated in loving memory of the Kimes &, Szyjko Families & The Valente Family. PALM CROSSES ARE AVAILABLE AT ALL CHURCH EXITS FOR A DONATION OF $1.00 Parish Share 2018 $ What? This is the amount which our parish must remit to the Diocese of Pittsburgh. If we raise more we can retain the excess. If not it will come out of our operating expenses. Why? This figure is computed by taking a percentage of all our income. (offertory, donations, bequests, fund raisers, etc.) It is a straight assessment at this percentage for all parishes. When? NOW The Diocesan Drive began in February and we have until December 31,2018 to pay off the full amount. How? Simply! We all have received an envelope marked Parish Share. We have asked for each family to contribute $350 or more, if possible. Cash, Check, money order can all be used for this, which can be dropped in the basket, mailed, or left at the rectory. A one time lump can be given, monthly installments, sporadic payments, whatever works for you. Just please mark it Parish Share. Who? We need everyone!
