8 For many, many years, St. Mary, Milton has generated a weekly Worship Aid in-house to assist us with the parts of the mass, the readings and music for the weekend. While our Worship Aid has been a wonderful addition to weekend services, the time constraint and cost to produce it on a weekly basis is more significant than to purchase an annual Missal. Beginning the weekend of September 2 and 3, we will no longer produce our Worship Aid, and instead use the missal Breaking Bread. This is the same missal that is used at St. Joseph, Edgerton and includes the Order of Mass, Scripture readings for the entire year, plus all of the music that we currently use as well as new songs and hymns to help us raise our voices in praise to God. We realize it will take time to get reacquainted with using a missal, but over time, we hope you will come to enjoy it as much as the Worship Aid. HEAT UP! WISCONSIN: Every year since 2010, the Lennox dealers of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan donate up to 100 furnaces to homeowners in need at absolutely no charge to the recipient. So far, over 500 furnaces (a value of $2.2 million) have been donated and installed free-of-charge in Wisconsin and the UP. They rely on nominations and believe parishioners can help by spreading the word or nominating people you know who could use a helping hand. This program consists of small dealers who want to make a difference in their communities. You are a key to helping them find people in your neighborhood who could use a new furnace in their home. For more information or to nominate someone, please visit by September 5. WE ARE ONE Rebuilding the Father s House: Join us Friday, September 15 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 16 from 9:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. at CrossPointe Community Church Whitewater for the We Are One Conference. Author, speaker and missionary Joey LeTourneau will speak. Worship leader and songwriter Kelsey Krause will lead worship. Go to for more information and to register online. Early Bird $20 through august 18; $25 through September 14 and $30 on the day of event.

9 Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work. Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it." Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group." It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference. Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did? When you are asked to help in your local church this year, remember -- they can't depend on Someone Else anymore. Many hands make little work! Prayer: Father let me be someone you can count on and not someone else. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

12 When Father Michael McGivney established the Knights of Columbus he envisioned all Catholic men, age 18 and up in good standing with the Catholic Church, to become a member of the Knights of Columbus to assist with the needs of each local community. In 2016, the Knights of Columbus worldwide, volunteered 75,112,694 hours to charitable initiatives and gave $177,500,573 in charitable donations. Locally, we provide charitable donations to the Milton Food Pantry, families in need, Right to Life, scholarships for high school seniors, as well as providing hours for our annual Basketball Free-Throw competition, Punt-Pass & Kick competition, Tootsie Roll and Life Saver campaigns, Drive for the Cure golf outing, and more. Money earned is money to be spent for the charitable needs of our community. The Knight of Columbus good works are formed by four core principles: 1. Charity: Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself 2. Unity: Together we can accomplish more than any of us could individually. 3. Fraternity: The Knights of Columbus formed in large part to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died often prematurely. We serve others in fraternity and mercy. 4. Patriotism: Members are patriotic citizens proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. As part of our Milton patriotic initiative, a flag will be flown over the United States Capitol on August 12, Father McGivney s birthday. This flag will then be shipped to Milton. When we receive the flag, it will be flown at St. Mary Cemetery on patriotic holidays. We hope to have it in hand to be flown at our cemetery on Patriot s Day, September 11. Men of the parish, JUST SAY YES, and join us to make our parish stronger every year. We especially invite the younger, social media skilled men as we work to set up a Facebook page so that the whole parish can follow our

13 commitment to Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. Ladies of the parish, we invite you to invite your men to join the Knights of Columbus (give them a push). 15 Since the 16th century the months of the year have been assigned special devotions to help focus our prayer on specific aspects of the faith. August is traditionally dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The heart aflame with love for her Son and humanity. The heart that pondered all things after the visit of the shepherds to the infant Jesus (Luke 2:19) and after finding the adolescent Jesus in the midst of the teachers in the Jerusalem temple (Luke 2:51). The heart that would be pierced as foretold by the prophet Simeon (Luke 2:35). Jesus wishes to establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world, Mary told three shepherd children in a vision at Fatima, Portugal. Tell everybody that God grants graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and that they must ask them from her. There is a new book to be found in the media kiosk in the gathering space at St. Mary (that would be the rack-on-wheels filled with booklets, CDs and videos) called Meet Your Mother: A Brief Introduction to Mary which strives to help us understand the Blessed Mother s role in our salvation. One of the chapters is titled In the End, My Immaculate Heart Will Triumph. In it the author explains how this devotion has received new emphasis due to the visions given to Lucy Dos Santos, oldest of the visionaries of Fatima. This year marks the 100th anniversary of those apparitions of Mary which happened on the 13th day for six months in row from May to October. The August 13th apparition, however, didn t happen until the 19th and the reasons why involve kidnapping and the threat of death in boiling oil. I ll say no more about them, though you can discover that out for yourself from other offerings regarding Fatima available in that same media kiosk! It s no wonder Mary is spotlighted this month, since there are many feasts directly and indirectly associated with her in August. On the 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, when she was taken body and soul into heaven upon her earthly life s conclusion, and made its queen (celebrated on the 22nd). Saints with special affection for Mary are honored this month. Dominic (8th) was instrumental in the spreading of the Holy Rosary and John Eudes (19th) promoted devotion to the Immaculate Heart. Maximilian Kolbe (14th) established the Militia of the Immaculata in 1917, the same year Mary appeared in Fatima. This worldwide evangelization movement encourages total consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in order that she might guide and lead us, in union with her divine Son, into the spiritual battle that gives us moral strength. There's something about Mary and the Church gives us plenty of opportunities to contemplate her in prayer and to learn more about her especially this month. Paul Schultz
