General Announcements Thanks and Appreciation We wish to express our most heartfelt thanks to Mary Beth and John Miller for their very generous gift to Saint Mary Parish, given in honor of Charles and Mary Lyon, parents of Mary Beth. This gift recognizes the many years of service they so generously gave to Saint Mary Parish, as well as the blessings they received as faithful participants in our parish life. The gift is a welcome addition to our Ministries Endowment Fund, and will continue supporting our parish ministries on into perpetuity. Thank you, Mary Beth and John. RELIGIOUS ITEMS SALE: Prepare for Advent by stopping in our parish center this weekend after all masses to shop for religious items. Advent calendars, wreaths and candles, children s books, prayer books and much more will be available to lift your spirit for the upcoming season. This is also a good time to purchase gifts locally for special occasions, such as baptisms and First Communions. 5 Stewardship: A Way of Life Our Lord Jesus Christ the King Today s Psalm contrasts sharply with the painful scenario in the Gospel reading. In the darkest moments Christians are called to look forward with hope to the ultimate reconciliation of all creation with God. Luke s Gospel tells us, that even on the cross, Jesus had the eyes to see that forces were already in motion, that salvation was already being accomplished. As disciples of Jesus, how can we learn to see the Spirit s working around us? Does my stewardship of the blessings entrusted to us. MOVING ON: Mary Therese Gallagher, our former Pastoral Associate, would like all to know that she will be moving to Madison on Saturday, November 27 th. Anyone who would like to get in touch with her, at any time, can call Vicki at the parish office at Vicki will transfer the message to Mary Therese. May continued blessings be yours Mary Therese WORLD VIGIL FOR LIFE NOVEMBER 27 th : Catholics will have an opportunity this year to join Pope Benedict in response to his unprecedented request for a worldwide vigil for life November 27 th. We are encouraged on the eve of the first Sunday of Advent to take part in this special prayer whose purpose, according to the Holy See, is to thank the Lord for His Incarnation which gave every human life its real worth and dignity and to invoke the Lord s protection over every human being called into existence. Pope Benedict will preside over an evening prayer vigil November 27 th in St. Peter s Basilica and asked that parishes, religious communities, associations, and movement around the world hold vigils of their own. Bishop Robert C. Morlino invites the faithful of the Diocese of Madison to participate in the vigil on Saturday, November 28 th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Church of the Cathedral in Madison.

6 A SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING GIFT GIVING AT ROCK HAVEN: Once again Rock Haven has chosen not to have a holiday party this year due to staffing issues. However, the residents truly appreciate the gifts that are delivered to their rooms on Christmas morning. Often this is the only gift some residents receive for Christmas each year. The Christmas Giving Tree is in the gathering space this weekend. Each envelope hanging on the tree will have a gift idea. Please open your envelope, leave your name and phone number on the slip provided and place it in the basket near the tree. We ask that gifts are place in gift bags rather than wrapped as they are easier for the residents to open. Please have all gifts to church no later than Sunday, December 12 th. Gifts will be delivered to Rock Haven on Saturday, December 18 th. If there is someone with a large covered vehicle who would like to help with delivery on the 18 th, please contact Randi at Thank you again for your generosity. KC CHRISTMAS PARTY: Our annual Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, December 5 th at Lake House Inn in Edgerton. Cocktails from 5:30 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Choice of prime rib, broasted chicken or baked ham. Please call Ron Wentzel no later than November 29 with your menu choice NATIVITY OF MARY BAZAAR SALE: The work of Human Hands Bazaar Sale will take place in the church hall at Nativity of Mary, Janesville on Saturday, November 20 from 3:00 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, November 21 from 9:30 a.m. noon. Items for sale will include jewelry, home décor, chocolate, coffee, Christmas decorations and many other goods. These unique products are the labors of artisans and farmers who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. A percentage of the proceeds will support SERRV International, whose mission is to eradicate poverty worldwide. Come and shop for gifts for your loved ones and express your own values.

7 CHRISTMAS HELP FOR OTHERS: Once again this year, we have three special Christmas needs that we annually help with donations: Teen children of the inmates at Rock County Jail, Rock Haven residents, and parishioners of our sister parish St. Anthony in Neopit, Wisconsin. Now There is a basket in the gathering space to drop off gift cards for the teen children of the inmates. This will give the teens the opportunity to have fun picking out their gift. Gift cards must be brought to St. Mary s for distribution by November 28 th. This Weekend The names of Rock Haven residents will be on the Christmas Giving Tree in the gathering space. Gifts for these residents must be returned to St. Mary s by December 12 h or they may be brought in earlier. November 27/28 The Christmas Giving Tree will turn into a Dollar Tree for the families in need in our Sister parish. St. Anthony has made an additional request. Several of their parishioners must travel to Madison or Milwaukee for medical attention. To help ease the cost of travel, St. Anthony is requesting gasoline cards from the following companies: BP, Exxon Mobile and Shell. Final collection date is December 5 th. All the dates above are hard and fast so that we can get them to the people in need by early December. Thank you again for your generosity.

Awakening to the presence of God in my life Advent is a wonderful time to explore how to deepen your prayer-life. Sister Connie Fahey, FSM will be leading a three-part session on prayer at St. John Vianney, Janesville. Each session will expose you to the different ways we humans are invited to enter into a deeper relationship with God. Each session will include a lecture on prayer styles, time for personal prayer and opportunity for discussion and questions. Each session is separate so if you are unable to attend one or other you can take advantage of the one or two which are convenient for you.
