1 KNOLLWOOD AT WORSHIP THE SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER DEDICATION OF THE WELCOME AND COMMUNITY CENTER Sunday, May 21, :55 a.m. To those who feel the need of light; to those who find doubts and fears in their hearts; to those who need courage for their daily tasks; to those who feel lonely and friendless; to those who wish to give service; to all who, in faith, will support and involve themselves to the limit of their ability in the work of the Kingdom of God which this church undertakes; to all who want rest, peace, and happiness--this church invites you to the fellowship of Jesus.

6 INFORMATION ABOUT TODAY S CELEBRATION Assistance for Seniors and others: At the conclusion of today s service, during the first stanza of the Hymn of Dedication, Creative Spirit, Still Restless with Life, we invite our charter members, other seniors members or visitors--and anyone who has mobility challenges to leave the sanctuary and proceed to seats reserved for you in front of the Wellness and Community Center. We have two sixseater golf carts for those who need assistance. You will have reserved seats in the dining room if you want to eat inside. We also have servers available to take your lunch order and bring your lunch from the food trucks! Ribbon Cutting: In addition to the Sutton family, deacons, ministers, and congregational representatives, we will invite a number of people who worked on the building, along with community partner representatives, to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Food trucks will begin serving after the ceremony. Alternating lunch and tours: Because we can t all tour the building at the same time, we ask that some have lunch first and take the tour afterward. Those who tour first can then have lunch. Tours will begin at 1 pm. Deacons will guide the tours with groups of people. Don t forget your passport: Be sure to get your passport as you enter the WCC, and have it stamped in all the locations listed. Include your name and contact information, and put it in the basket provided as you exit the side gym doors. Your passport makes you eligible for a drawing for several items, including a gift cards from Rooster s A Noble Grille, and Dewey s Bakery; Dash tickets; Wake Forest tickets; Sunshine Beverage T-shirts; and the ferns that are on our dining tables. For parents of young children: There is no Children's Worship today so that we can all be together for the worship celebration and dedication. Parents with children in Worship Care are asked to leave and get them during the Hymn of Dedication. There is some childcare provided for infants through threeyear-olds during the afternoon (especially those who may need a nap). After the ribbon-cutting and lunch, you are welcome to escort children back to Bldg. B as needed. There are many child-friendly events this afternoon for all ages so we hope that families with children will find the right activities for you. In the event of significant rain: We will gather in the WCC gym (and on the track above if needed to accommodate everyone) for the ribbon-cutting. Tours and lunch will then begin, with dining tables in the Fellowship Hall, Dining Room, and on both floors of Noffsinger. Lunch will be served by food trucks. TO OUR GUESTS We extend to you a sincere welcome and the hope that you will find your worship experience meaningful. You are invited to the narthex for a brief time of fellowship following worship where you can meet church members and clergy, and learn more about this congregation. We would ask that you record your visit by filling out the friendship pad in the pew; addresses are especially helpful. To learn more about Knollwood Baptist Church, find us online at You can also receive our newsletter and announcements by ing colleen@knollwood.org, or just call the church office, Sunday School at Knollwood begins at 9:45 a.m. KBC WELCOMING STATEMENT Knollwood Baptist Church is an inviting, inclusive family of faith open to all persons, whatever their race, gender, socioeconomic status, special needs, or sexual orientation, who want to walk in the way of Jesus. ABOUT OUR WORSHIP During worship this morning, we dedicate the Welcome and Community Center and the ministries it will allow Knollwood to put into action. For the occasion, Knollwood member Peggy Haymes has composed a new hymn text, which will be sung as the final Hymn of Dedication. Each verse of this hymn highlights a different mission of the wellness and community center, celebrating that each activity is grounded in our faith. For example, God blessed and made sacred our bodies not only in creation but in becoming flesh and walking among us. We welcome guest musicians Erin Lopp, Hannah Robins, and brass players from West Forsyth High School. Appreciation is also expressed to Knollwood musicians Patricia Hughes Ball for organizing and directing the brass ensemble, David Winkelman, Knollwood brass, and youth bell ringers for sharing their musical gifts in worship; and also to Dan Knight and John Ray for providing music for today s lunch. 6

7 Today s Call to Worship was written by Josh Godwin and the Litany of Dedication was written by Peggy Haymes. The acolytes are Austin Fowler and Mason Maguire and the crucifer is Matthew Maguire. Please silence all electronic devices. Thank you! Printed music used by permission of OneLicense.net #A FLOWERS The flowers in the sanctuary are given with love and gratitude to the glory of God and in celebration of Eloise Hardy on her third birthday. The flowers in the narthex are given to the glory of God and in celebration of Eloise McManus 95 th birthday by Anne Baker Adams, Herbert & Linda Baker, and LeeAnn Baker. The white rose on the altar is given by Knollwood Baptist Church in memory of Tom Gillikin. It is a symbol of the love and esteem in which this community of faith held him. ABOUT OUR BANNERS The Easter banner views Jesus resurrection from the inside of the tomb looking out. The grave clothes reflect the note in John 20:7 that the burial linens were left in the tomb with the head wrapping separate from the rest. The contrasting darkness within the tomb and the brightness outside point to the light of God s new day breaking upon a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). As Jesus exits the tomb, clothed in a loin cloth, he is about to surprise Mary with the realization, The Lord is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! (John 20:18). The artist who painted the banner is our own Bambi Setzer. FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Building B. Children s Worship for 1st through 3rd graders meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month. During the Hymn of Devotion, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to Children s Worship (B244). After the worship service, parents pick up their children from B244. For the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays children are invited to enjoy the worship service with their families. Children's worship bags, activity bulletins and sermon notes are available in the narthex. WEDNESDAY EVENINGS Come for a healthy dinner and fellowship (5:30-6:05 p.m.), hear the joys and concerns of our community (6:05-6:15 p.m.), then join our adult faith formation time (6:15-7:00 p.m.).
