ABOUT OUR BANNERS The way is a familiar biblical theme encompassing such truths as the way of the Lord (Isaiah 40:3), Jesus as the way (John 14:6), and the way as a description of Christian discipleship (Acts 9:2). The words on the banner point to the movements of faith: Longing for God that impels us forward in the spiritual journey; Learning the way of the Scriptures and the way of Jesus; Loving as our love for God and our neighbors deepens; and Living as we live out of Christian faith and witness in the world. The colors of the banner emphasize green for ordinary time, the period in the church year between Pentecost and Advent. The artist who designed and painted the banners is our own Bambi Setzer. FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Building B. Children s Worship resumes this month for 1st through 3rd graders. It meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month. During the Hymn of Devotion, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to Children s Worship (B244). After the worship service, parents pick up their children from B244. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone the children during that time. After children s choir the kids eat together in the dining room under the supervision of adults. Over dinner we have table talk - a time for them to share their own prayer concerns, celebrations and fellowship. If you are interested in volunteering with the 4/5 year olds or the 1st-5th graders, contact amine@knollwood.org MEET AND LEARN FROM MISSION PARTNERS AMOS HEALTH AND HOPE For several years KBC has supported the work of AMOS Health and Hope in Nicaragua through financial gifts. In July, Dr. Setzer and Beth Fields travelled to Nicaragua to experience the work of AMOS first-hand, and along with Mark Jensen, shared their experiences on a Wednesday night in July. In September, key staff of AMOS will be with us. You can take advantage of several opportunities to learn about their work in providing community health services to Nicaragua s most vulnerable people. SUNDAY, SEPT Dinner and Dialogue at 6:30 p.m. in the Dining Room, $10/person/Call to reserve. Dr. Laura Parajon, recently honored as one of 3 Rural Heroes by the World Organization of Family Doctors, will talk about AMOS s work of Community Based Primary Health Care through community development, education, and training community health workers. An opportunity to donate to the work of AMOS will be part of the evening. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 - FLU SHOTS AT KNOLLWOOD Flu Shots available during dinner, 5:30-6:00 p.m.--a service provided by pharmacist and KBC member Christine Ebert, supported by our Health and Wellness ministry team. Bring your health insurance card, take a minute for paperwork, then protect your health as flu season approaches. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 - SENIOR ADULT TRIP Chip and Peggy Mims African House in East Bend, NC - The bus will leave church parking lot for the Mims Place at 1:30 p.m. We will have time to visit and see their place in East Bend before going to dinner that evening. The cost is $1 to ride bus to help cover expenses for transportation. Each person will be responsible for cost of his or her dinner. At 4:00 p.m. we will leave for dinner and go to Theo s Restaurant, Jonesville, NC. We will return to the church by 7:30 p.m. Please reserve your place by Sept. 18, No reservations past that date. FRIDAY, SEPT MARRIAGE ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITY INFORMATION SESSION 7:00 P.M. For the last few years, a number of couples have discovered the benefits of focusing a little time each month on improving their marriage relationship. This information session will provide a chance for new couples who are curious about these groups to find out more about them (Downstairs, Noffsinger Youth Bldg). We also need experienced, happily married couples, to join these groups as role models for others. Couples who have experienced the growth potential of these groups at KBC will be present to answer questions along with the leaders, Chuck and Reneé Hinson. There is no obligation to join one of 7

In his book The Longevity Revolution: As Boomers Become Elders, Theodore Roszak shows that for the first time in human evolution we can, with reasonable expectations, live beyond 65 years in the USA and even hope for another decade or even decades to age. What then will we do and who will we become with this gift of expanded generative years? Co-led by Maurice Briggs and Ben Wagener, this Sunday morning elective series on Creative Aging is grounded on the premise that faith practices and the aging process are actually made for each other, resulting in enrichment and empowerment. We anticipate: becoming more oriented to the dynamics of aging; assessing existing abilities and strength in coping with the aging challenges; experiencing being compassionately understood as a person of faith who is aging.
