6 ABOUT OUR WORSHIP Today in worship we recognize and install our two ministerial interns, Rachel Revelle and Daniel Potter. Rachel Revelle is a second year student at the Wake Forest University School of Divinity. She grew up in Murfreesboro, NC, but came to Winston-Salem from Durham, NC. She graduated from Duke University in 2011 with a BA in English and then worked for two years at the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke. Rachel is interested in the role of faith in the public sphere and how communities can collaborate to promote the flourishing of all people. She looks forward to being a part of the Knollwood community in a variety of ways, including practicing pastoral care and contributing to missions and outreach projects. Rachel is discerning whether her call is to congregational ministry, and knows that Knollwood will be a valuable space in which to cultivate her ministerial identity. Daniel Potter is a second year student at Wake Forest School of Divinity from Chapel Hill, NC. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in December 2012, earning a BS Business Administration, focused in International Business and Operations, and a Hispanic Studies minor. At Knollwood, Daniel will primarily be serving as the Youth Ministry intern, though he will be observing all of the ministerial areas. He hopes to continue working with youth following graduation in a congregational setting. Daniel enjoys singing, laughing, hanging out with friends, and cheering for his beloved Tar Heels. He is excited to be at Knollwood and grateful for the opportunity to serve a great church. FLOWERS The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in memory of Irving Key by Dot Key, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The white rose on the altar is given by Knollwood Baptist Church in memory of Calvin Knight. It is a symbol of the love and esteem in which this community of faith held him. ABOUT OUR BANNERS The way is a familiar biblical theme encompassing such truths as the way of the Lord (Isaiah 40:3), Jesus as the way (John 14:6), and the way as a description of Christian discipleship (Acts 9:2). The words on the banner point to the movements of faith: Longing for God that impels us forward in the spiritual journey; Learning the way of the Scriptures and the way of Jesus; Loving as our love for God and our neighbors deepens; and Living as we live out of Christian faith and witness in the world. The colors of the banner emphasize green for ordinary time, the period in the church year between Pentecost and Advent. The artist who designed and painted the banners is our own Bambi Setzer. FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Building B. Children s Worship is for 1 st through 3 rd graders. It meets on the 1 st, 3 rd and 5 th Sundays of the month. During the Hymn of Devotion, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to Children s Worship (B244). After the worship service, parents pick up their children from B244. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone the children during that time. CARDBOARD CITY LOCK-IN OCTOBER p.m.- 8 a.m. - Noffsinger Knollwood Baptist Youth will learn about the perils of asset poverty in our own community, raise funds to build a Habitat house, and build homes out of cardboard. Through Cardboard City, KBC youthies will grow closer with God and with each other - all while uniting against substandard housing and having fun, too! $20 buys this late night adventure. SUNDAY SCHOOL OPTION: HEAR FROM SAM AND MELODY HARRELL OF KENYA Sunday, Nov. 2, 9:45 a.m. Fellowship Hall Sam and Meloday Harrell are longtime mission friends of Knollwood. Several project teams from Knollwood have travelled to Kenya in support. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship commissioned the Harrells in1999. In Kenya, the Harrells have created Change for Children because the construction of eight integrated child development centers around Kenya has the potential to better the lives of the nearly 650 children, ranging in age from 3 to 6, who will attend the schools this year.
