7 ABOUT OUR WORSHIP This morning s hymn of discipleship, a new setting composed by Knollwood member Susan Borwick, is based on an Ancient Indian melody. The text echoes our Thanksgiving focus on generosity and giving of our whole selves to God. The bags of food at the altar are Knollwood s annual ingathering of non-perishable grocery items to be donated to Crisis Control. If you would like to make a special offering to alleviate hunger, simply note World Hunger Offering on a donation check and drop it in the offering plate or by the church office. These funds are divided and distributed through two channels: Locally: Samaritan Ministries provides the only seven-day-a-week soup kitchen within Forsyth County, providing hot meals to people of all ages, genders, and races. In addition, Samaritan Ministries operates a year-round shelter for single men, serving the hungry and homeless. Internationally: Baptist World Aid is funded through the Baptist World Alliance. Receipts for World Hunger are allocated equally to alleviate the immediate needs of hungry people and to reduce the FLOWERS The flowers in the narthex are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Dot Lougee, wife of V.B. Lougee, and mother of Carol (and John) Danforth by her family. ABOUT OUR BANNERS The way is a familiar biblical theme encompassing such truths as the way of the Lord (Isaiah 40:3), Jesus as the way (John 14:6), and the way as a description of Christian discipleship (Acts 9:2). The words on the banner point to the movements of faith: Longing for God that impels us forward in the spiritual journey; Learning the way of the Scriptures and the way of Jesus; Loving as our love for God and our neighbors deepens; and Living as we live out of Christian faith and witness in the world. The colors of the banner emphasize green for ordinary time, the period in the church year between Pentecost and Advent. The artist who designed and painted the banners is our own Bambi Setzer. FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Building B. Children s Worship resumes this month for 1st through 3rd graders. It meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month. During the Hymn of Devotion, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to Children s Worship (B244). After the worship service, parents pick up their children from B244. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone the children during that time. For the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays children are invited to enjoy the worship service with their families. Children s activity bulletins and crayons are available in the narthex. 8 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FOR A WELLNESS AND COMMUNITY CENTER On Sunday, Nov. 16, the church in conference approved a recommendation from the diaconate to proceed with a capital campaign for a Wellness and Community Center. The vote was 251 FOR the motion and 43 AGAINST, 85% in favor. As proposed, the Wellness and Community Center will house a reception/welcome area, the church offices, a multi-function gymnasium and space for community activities. Funds raised by the capital campaign will supplement a gift by a church family that will cover more than half of the building s cost. The Deacon Executive Council (DEC) will appoint a Capital Campaign Steering Committee that will plan a campaign to be conducted in the spring of The DEC will engage the Phase III Work Group to develop a detailed plan for the Wellness and Community Center. The plan will include design and construction timeline as well as a final budget. A congregational vote to approve this plan will be required before construction begins. This highly anticipated concert of Advent and Christmas music will be presented by the Carol Choir (1st-2nd graders), Chapel Choir (3rd-5th graders), Youth Choir (6th-12th graders), Chancel Choir, Middle School, High School, and Chancel Bell Choirs, Knollwood Youth Guitar Ensemble, Knollwood Brass, and various other guest musicians.
