Then the cloud of presence, then the voice of witness: This is my beloved Son on whom my favor rests. Listen to him. Hear him! The white rose on the altar is given by Knollwood Baptist Church in memory of Claude Ingram. It is a symbol of the love and esteem in which this community of faith held him. ABOUT OUR BANNERS The way is a familiar biblical theme encompassing such truths as the way of the Lord (Isaiah 40:3), Jesus as the way (John 14:6), and the way as a description of Christian discipleship (Acts 9:2). The words on the banner point to the movements of faith: Longing for God that impels us forward in the spiritual journey; Learning the way of the Scriptures and the way of Jesus; Loving as our love for God and our neighbors deepens; and Living as we live out of Christian faith and witness in the world. The colors of the banner emphasize green for ordinary time, the period in the church year between Pentecost and Advent. The artist who designed and painted the banners is our own Bambi Setzer. BENEVOLENCE OFFERING On Communion Sunday, a benevolence offering is taken to help with needs in the Knollwood family and wider community. Ushers will be in the narthex following worship to receive donations. 5

7 FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Bldg. B. Children s Worship for 1st through 3rd graders meet on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays. During the Hymn of Devotion, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to Children s Worship (B244). After worship, parents pick up their children from B244. For the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays children are invited to enjoy the worship service with their families. Children's worship bags, activity bulletins and sermon notes are available in the narthex. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 25, CELEBRATING KEN WILSON S MINISTRY To everything there is a season, and at Knollwood the season of Ken Wilson s music ministry leadership is coming to a close. Ken has served faithfully since February 1986, a tenure of 32 years, longer than any other ministerial staff member. As we celebrate Ken s ministry among us, and say our goodbyes, please be present for these special occasions: 10:55 Morning Worship A celebration of Ken s ministry will be incorporated into the service of worship. 2:30-4:00 PM Farewell Reception honoring Ken in the Fellowship Hall Please plan to attend this reception and bring a card or note with your appreciation of Ken and Cathy to place in a basket. At 3:15 PM there will be a brief program. Ken s ministry has been a blessing beyond words to our congregation. Please find your way to say a personal Thank-You before he leaves. Love Offering A love offering is being received for Ken and Cathy. Please designate your contribution as Wilson Love Offering. This love offering will be presented to the Wilson at the Farewell Reception. THE LENTEN JOURNEY WITH JESUS Lent is a 40-day season of spiritual reflection, prayer, and service that anticipates the church s celebration of Easter. This year, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14. Feb. 14, Ash Wednesday Service and Lunch Noon Our Lenten journey will begin with a noon mid-day Ash Wednesday Service in the Chapel. Worshipers who wish to participate will receive the imposition of ashes upon the forehead. A soup and bread luncheon will follow in the dining room. Ash Wednesday Evening 6:15 p.m. An intergenerational beginning to Lent, with all ages together learning about this sacred season, moving through multi-sensory prayer stations, and sharing the imposition of ashes among families and friends. Knollwood s Lenten Devotional Guide Lent approaches, a sacred time to refresh creative devotional practices.
