1 KNOLLWOOD AT WORSHIP THE FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Sunday, June 12, :55 a.m. To those who feel the need of light; to those who find doubts and fears in their hearts; to those who need courage for their daily tasks; to those who feel lonely and friendless; to those who wish to give service; to all who, in faith, will support and involve themselves to the limit of their ability in the work of the Kingdom of God which this church undertakes; to all who want rest, peace, and happiness--this church invites you to the fellowship of Jesus.

2 KNOLLWOOD AT WORSHIP GATHERING FOR WORSHIP Please silence all electronic devices. Thank you! THE CHIMES Three chimes are sounded, awakening us to the presence of God, alerting us to the voice of Christ, centering us in the embrace of the Spirit. As we gather, we present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship. THE OPENING SENTENCE... Diane Lipsett One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. THE PRELUDE How Firm a Foundation...arr. Michael Burkhardt Lauren Winkelman, organ THE CHORAL INTROIT Breathe on Me, Breath of God...Robert Jackson The Chancel Choir [Text may be followed in the hymnal at No. 295, St. 1.] THE CALL TO WORSHIP... Diane Lipsett One: Days of long light speak to our hearts. Fruits and flowers delight our senses. All: Heaven and Earth are full of God s glory! One: Summer mornings call to us in birds and blooms, none of it the work of our hands. All: We join our hearts in grateful praise for Creation freely given. ~Mark Jensen THE INVOCATION AND THE LORD S PRAYER... 4 *THE GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 7: Josh Godwin, Chris Norman One: This is the Gospel of Christ. All: Thanks be to God. *THE HYMN OF DEVOTION, NO. 502 Amazing Grace! How Sweet the Sound...NEW BRITAIN We invite the children, grades 1 st through 3 rd to remain in worship with their parents. Children s Worship is on the first and third, fifth Sundays of the month. Worship Care for preschool and kindergarten is offered weekly. THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE... Ted Philpott THE SERMON... Bob Setzer, Jr. ERRING ON THE SIDE OF GRACE THE CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION The Sursum Corda... Bob Setzer, Jr. One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. One: Lift up your hearts! All: We lift them to the Lord. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give our thanks and praise! The Prayer of Confession Sometimes we have wanted to instruct Jesus regarding his lapses in judgment about the company he keeps. Like the Pharisee, we have grumbled when Jesus delights in someone we don t approve or understand. We have embodied judgment in word, gesture, disapproving glances and tones, and punishing silences. We have sometimes judged ourselves just as harshly. We seek approval, but long for grace. Help us, God, to remember that in Your economy grace gets the last laugh and the last dance. ~Mark Jensen The Words of Institution Sharing the Bread and the Cup This morning, we will serve one another Communion as brothers and sisters in the family of God. Please use the center aisle to approach the table at the front of the section where you are seated. Once a circle of worshipers forms around the table, the minister will offer the first person the bread of Communion and say, The love of God for you. That person then passes the bread to the next person in the circle and says, The love of God for you, and so on. As the bread is being passed, the minister will offer the chalice to the first person served and say, The peace of Christ for you. That person will dip his or her bread in the chalice and take Communion. He or she will then hold the chalice for the next person in the circle and say, The peace of Christ for you, and so on. Please remain standing at the table until everyone is served, then return to your seat by the outside aisle by the wall. (If you prefer to have Communion served at your seat, please indicate with a raised hand and a deacon will assist you.) The Bread and the Cup I Need Thee Every Hour...arr. Mark Shepperd The Chancel Choir [Text may be followed at No. 538 in the hymnal.] 4
