1 KNOLLWOOD AT WORSHIP THE SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Sunday, May 10, :55 a.m. To those who feel the need of light; to those who find doubts and fears in their hearts; to those who need courage for their daily tasks; to those who feel lonely and friendless; to those who wish to give service; to all who, in faith, will support and involve themselves to the limit of their ability in the work of the Kingdom of God which this church undertakes; to all who want rest, peace, and happiness--this church invites you to the fellowship of Jesus. GATHERING FOR WORSHIP Please silence all electronic devices. Thank you! THE CHIMES Three chimes are sounded, awakening us to the presence of God, alerting us to the voice of Christ, centering us in the embrace of the Spirit. As we gather, we present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship. THE OPENING SENTENCE... Diane Lipsett One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. THE PRELUDE Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us...arr. Charles Callahan Lauren Winkelman, piano THE INTROIT All Things Bright and Beautiful... Vicki Hancock Wright The Carol Choir [Text May be followed at No. 57 in the hymnal.] THE CALL TO WORSHIP... Diane Lipsett One: Who is my mother and who are my brothers and sisters? Look around you, and you will see them. They are not always the people you grew up with. They are the people who have joined the journey to learn more about God and the ways of God's people. All: They are the people who abandon houses and land, fame and fortune for the sake of the gospel. One: They are the people who pray through the night for the safety of someone else's child or for the healing of someone else's loved one. All: They are the ones who offer a cold cup of water to people considered outcast. They do so in the name of Christ. One: Who are my brothers; who are my sisters; where is my family? All: Jesus said that whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother. (Mark 3:35, NRSV) One: Welcome to worship, family! All: We gather to worship the God who has made us kin! ~Safiyah Fosua THE INVOCATION AND THE LORD S PRAYER... Diane Lipsett * Those who are able will stand. Ushers will seat those waiting. Hearing aids and large print hymns are available from the ushers.

5 ABOUT OUR WORSHIP Appreciation is expressed to Anna Ball for sharing her musical gifts this morning, and to David Winkelman for his leadership while Ken Wilson is on vacation. Please silence all electronic devices. Thank you! Printed music used by permission of OneLicense.net # A FLOWERS The flowers in the sanctuary are given with special love in memory of Frances Barrier, Gene s mother, and with special love in memory of Marjorie Wilson Gardner, Ellen s mother, by Gene, Ellen, Thomas, Tiffany, Ava, Tommy, Gardner, Heather, Livy, and Maya. ABOUT OUR BANNERS The Easter banner views Jesus resurrection from the inside of the tomb looking out. The grave clothes reflect the note in John 20:7 that the burial linens were left in the tomb with the head wrapping separate from the rest. The contrasting darkness within the tomb and the brightness outside point to the light of God s new day breaking upon a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). As Jesus exits the tomb, clothed in a loin cloth, he is about to surprise Mary with the realization, The Lord is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! (John 20:18). The artist who painted the banner is our own Bambi Setzer. FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Building B. Children s Worship resumes this month for 1st through 3rd graders. It meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month. During the Hymn of Devotion, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to Children s Worship (B244). After the worship service, parents pick up their children from B244. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone the children during that time. If you are interested in volunteering one Sunday, please contact Amine Seifert, amine@knollwood.org. For the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays children are invited to enjoy the worship service with their families. Children s activity bulletins and crayons are available in the narthex. The food is to benefit the Bolton Elementary School families participating in the backpack program. Many students at Bolton receive food on Fridays because of food insecurity at home over the weekend. When school is out for the summer, these children will not have the two meals provided on weekdays at school or the extra food on Fridays. This collection will give these families a boost. We are requesting that you bring as many of the items listed below as you can, in your own paper grocery bags. There will be people ready to assist you before Sunday School/worship on the morning of May 31. Flyers with the list of foods requested can be found in the narthex.
