ABOUT OUR BANNERS The way is a familiar biblical theme encompassing such truths as the way of the Lord (Isaiah 40:3), Jesus as the way (John 14:6), and the way as a description of Christian discipleship (Acts 9:2). The words on the banner point to the movements of faith: Longing for God that impels us forward in the spiritual journey; Learning the way of the Scriptures and the way of Jesus; Loving as our love for God and our neighbors deepens; and Living as we live out of Christian faith and witness in the world. The colors of the banner emphasize green for ordinary time, the period in the church year between Pentecost and Advent. The artist who designed and painted the banners is our own Bambi Setzer. FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Building B. Children s Worship meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month for 1st through 3rd graders. During the second hymn, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to B244. After the service, parents pick up their children from B244. Contact chrissy@knollwood.org to volunteers to help chaperone the children during this time. For the 2nd and 4th Sundays children are invited to enjoy the worship service with their families. Children s activity bulletins and crayons are available in the narthex. 6 FLORENCE DISASTER RELIEF Knollwood has made an initial donation of $10,000 to help with Florence relief and rebuilding. If you wish to make a gift as well, please designate your online gift, or a check for Hurricane Florence: These gifts will be channeled through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of NC. More information about the seven teams is available in the narthex and at THE MUSTARD SEED THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING: WHY I GIVE For 2 years I had the rewarding (and eye-opening) experience of serving as chair of the Missions Affiliations and Allocations Committee (MAAC). All of us are aware that Knollwood requires adequate funding to support its personnel, programming and facilities. But did you know that 10% of everything given to the church is directly allocated for external local, state, national and international missions? For me, giving is not an act of duty but a passion to help others, and I am proud to be a part of a church that is so missionminded. A description of the role of music at Knollwood and the leadership profile for the music minister is at ALL GOD S CHILDREN - BUS TOUR OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORICAL/CULTURAL SITES Knollwood s All God s Children Ministry Team invites Knollwood members and visitors to join a tour on the church bus of African-American historical and cultural sites in Winston-Salem, led by Cheryl Harry of Triad Cultural Arts. This tour is a repeat of the well-received tour in July. Sites include St. Phillip s Heritage Center at Old Salem, the Biggers murals at Winston-Salem State University, art museums, and George Black s home. Knollwood partners with Crisis Control, a Christian ministry that assists people in crisis to meet essential life needs and to become self-sufficient, to keep its food pantry stocked.
