Spiritual Reading Lending Library We have assembled a library based upon spiritual reading, reflection and meditation for the benefit of our parishioners and friends. It is located in the vestibule of the church. Everyone is invited to browse through and take a book home to read. Once you have finished the book, please return it so others can make use of it. As we strive to live good Christian lives, it is important we fill our minds and hearts with things that are of the Lord. Please take advantage of this opportunity to grow in faith and knowledge. Next Pyrohy Sale Our next sale of Pyrohy is scheduled for September 18-20, 2018 (pickup on the 20th). Orders have to be placed by noon on Thursday, September 18 th. 3 Pilgrimage Planning Meeting A general planning meeting for the Third Annual Call to Prayer Pilgrimage will be held on Sunday, August 5 th at Noon in the social hall of our Centralia parish. We invite all and everyone interested in helping plan and execute this annual event. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us to share your thoughts and ideas to make this the biggest and best pilgrimage so far. More info, contact JoAnn at Divine Liturgy at Geisinger We have made arrangements to celebrate the Divine Liturgy in the hospital chapel at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville to aide the spiritual needs of staff and patients. Litugry will be celebrated by priests of our deanery twice monthly on Tuesdays at Noon in the hospital chapel located by the B elevators. The next liturgy will be August 7th. It is hoped we can begin to build a community of faithful whose prayers will support the health and emotional needs of the entire hospital community. All are welcome to attend and participate. Soup and Sandwich Ministry We serve a humble lunch of a soup and sandwich every second and fourth Wednesday of the month between the hours of 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM. This lunch is open to everyone in our community: the needy, the elderly, and the lonely and is totally free of charge. Our next lunch will be served on August 8th. Special thanks to everyone who has made a donation in support of this project. We are grateful for your generosity. Keep in mind a special third collection for loose change will be taken the last weekend of every month. If you would like to help with the meals, please join us. Any and all help is appreciated. Vacationing for the Summer If you are traveling this summer on vacation and do not attend liturgies, please contribute your previous weeks envelopes that you have missed in the weekly collection basket when you return from vacation. 4 All Are Called to Prayer during a Holy Pilgrimage on Sunday, August 26; Bishop Andriy Rabiy to Lead Pilgrims at Assumption Church, Centralia All are invited to join Bishop Andriy Rabiy and clergy on a Pilgrimage at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Centralia, Pa. on Sunday, August 26th. The pilgrimage begins at 12:00 noon with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy with Bishop Andriy, Apostolic Administrator of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia as the main celebrant and homilist. Bishop Ronald Gainer of the Diocese of Harrisburg will give a reflection and lead the pilgrims in the praying of a Living Rosary at 2:00 PM before the historic and jeweled 18th century copy of the Icon of Our Lady of Pochaiv. At 3:00 PM Akafist to the Mother of God will be sung. At 4:30 PM a candlelight procession to the church for the celebration of a Moleben to the Mother of God with Bishop Andriy as main celebrant and homilist. At the conclusion of the Moleben, prayers for healing and the anointing with holy oils for the healing of soul and body will take place. Confessions will be available throughout the day at various locations on the church grounds. There will be religious goods for sale, which will be blessed at the conclusion of the Living Rosary in the outdoor chapel. Food service will be provided from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. This is a Rain or Shine event. Handicap parking will be provided on the church grounds. Off-site parking and shuttle van service will be provided from specially designated areas near the church. For more information please feel free to contact the church rectory at This Pilgrimage was the inspired by His Beatitude Sviatoslav during his historic visit to the Centralia church in November He marveled at the continuing presence of the church in Centralia, where an underground mine-fire resulted in the abandonment of the town, the demolition of almost all buildings and the relocation of all but less than ten residents. Patriarch Sviatoslav felt a sense of true holiness which pervades the entire church property. His desire is for all people of faith to come and experience this holiness, sanctity and serenity as pilgrims to this holy place on the mountain. Donation to the Pilgrimage A donation of,000 for the Pilgrimage was presented to Fr. Michael at Ukrainian Day by representatives of the PA State Knights of Columbus. Assistance to Those Affected by Floods in PA Recently, many parishes in the central and northern part of Pennsylvania have been affected by floods caused by downpours. Many people have lost properties and personal valuables. Our Archeparchy is asking for your help and consider making a donation, which will be given directly to the parishioners and non-parishioners in the North and South Anthracite deaneries in Shenandoah, St. Clair, Mount Carmel, Centralia, Shamokin, Marion Heights, Olyphant, Minersville, Middleport, McAdoo, Hazleton, Scranton, Simpson, Nanticoke, Plymouth, Berwick, Glen Lyon, Wilkes Barre, Edwardsville, Frackville, and Maizeville who are in need.
