Peter & Paul/Assumption Churches are continuing to collect food items to be donated to the Mt. Carmel Area Food Bank. Please continue to donate to the less fortunate in our community. Ukrainian Seminary Day: The 81 st Annual Ukrainian Seminary Day will be held Sunday, July 26 th at St. Nicholas Church Picnic Grounds in Primrose (just outside of Minersville, PA) This annual event is sponsored by the 12 parishes and faithful of the South Anthracite Deanery under the leadership of their respective pastors. Plans for the day already include a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, delicious ethnic and regional foods prepared by the parishes of the deanery, a concert and dance performance by the Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, pysanky demonstrations and classes for the youth, polka music by the fabulous John Stevens Doubleshot Orchestra, a theme basket auction, many vendors selling traditional Ukrainian and Eastern European items and exciting games for the kids. We invite everyone from near and far to attend and support this annual event in support of our St. Josaphat Seminary in Washington DC. Again, we encourage the participation and input from the faithful of all our parishes. Please plan to attend and get involved. Your participation is greatly desired and appreciated! Ukrainian Day Raffle Tickets: Raffle Tickets for the big drawing at Ukrainian Day are available in the vestibule of the church or in the parish office. Tickets sell for $1.00 each or a book of 6 for $5.00. It would be wonderful if every member in our parish would purchase at least one book of tickets for the success of this event. NYC Bus Trip: Ss. Peter & Paul Rosary Society are sponsoring a trip on December 1 st 2015 to see the Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Cost of the trip which includes show ticket and transportation is $98.00 Reservations may be made by contacting Jeanne Bergal at or Christine Bogner at Mystery (Sacrament) of Repentance Is available before each Divine Liturgy on Saturday, 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM and on Sunday in SS. All youth between 6 th grade and college age, including members of our parishes and their friends, are cordially invited to attend and participate. A memorable day is planned for all who attend! Our speakers for the day are Carm DeFrancesco, former head coach of Mt. Carmel area football and a motivational speaker, along with Dr. Barbara Yastishock Lutz who is also an educator and inspirational speaker. Dr. Lutz is an editor of the God With Us Catechism Series as well as an author of many publications and articles about living our faith in the modern world. The day is FREE OF CHARGE and includes food and drink throughout the day and ride tickets for all attractions at the park. Families are welcome to join us as well! Registration forms and more information are available from Fr. Michael. Registration is required to be completed by July 5 th. This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth and families to come together and share a community spirit with the youth of the other parishes throughout our deanery. 4 Casino Bus Trip: Assumption of the B.V.M. Church, Centralia will be running a bus trip to Mohegan Sun on Tuesday, August 4, The cost is $22.00 and you receive $25.00 dollars back in free play and $5.00 in any food court/restaurant. The bus will be leaving at 9:00 AM and returning home at 5:00 PM. Pick-ups will begin at 9:00 AM in Shamokin, Kulpmont, Ss. Peter & Paul, Mt. Carmel, Ashland and Frackville. Saint Ignatius of Loyola Altar Rosary Society Sunday: Sunday, July 5, 2015 is Altar Rosary Society Sunday. All members are asked to join in praying the Rosary before liturgy, and receive the Holy Eucharist as a body. New members are always welcome into this society. Thank You: Our parish extends very special thanks to Justina Eisenhart, Donna Stephenson and Peter J. Cherapan for their generous donation in the amount of $2, in loving memory of +Peter and +Mary Cherapan. This money was donated for the purchase of an article for liturgical use in either one, or both, of our churches. As soon we determine an appropriate item for this purpose, we will make the purchase and pray a special blessing over it before making use of it. Archbishop Soroka to Celebrate Divine Liturgy during Knights of Columbus Convention; Wednesday, August 5 Divine Liturgy will be Televised Live on EWTN beginning at 8 a.m. On Wednesday, August 5, 2015, Metropolitan Stefan Soroka will be the main celebrant and homilist at the Divine Liturgy during the 133 rd Supreme Convention of the Knights of Columbus. Responses will be sung by the choir of the Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family, Washington, D.C. EWTN will televise this Divine Liturgy live beginning at 8 a.m. Holy Name Society Sunday: Sunday July 12 th, 2015 is Holy Name Society Sunday. All members are urged to pray together, and receive the Holy Eucharist as a group. New members are always welcome in this society. 5 Summer Camp/Registration: Ss. Peter & Paul will be hosting their third annual Vacation Bible School Summer Camp, August 3 rd through August 7 th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. with lunch being served for all campers. The camp will be held at Assumption BVM Church grounds in Centralia. This year s theme is Hometown NAZARETH Where Jesus was a Kid. Everyone will get to explore the culture of Jesus boyhood. Information about camp and registration forms are available in the vestibule of our churches and the church office during normal church office hours. As an added treat, Wednesday, August 5 th, all of the children of our parish and all summer camp children are invited to join us at Knoebel s Grove for a light dinner of hot dogs, chips and a drink, as well as a hand stamp for all children. This event is sponsored by the men of our Holy Name Society. (Forms are also available on our web site sspeterandpaulmc.org.) Divine Liturgy followed by a banquet for the couples attending. Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person: Catechetical Sunday with commissioning of catechists in the parish will be held Saturday & Sunday, September 19 th & 20 th. Additional information will be forthcoming providing details concerning these events.

6 Pyrohy for Seminary Day: SS. Peter & Paul Church, Mt. Carmel and Assumption B.V.M. Church, Centralia this year are responsible for making 400 dozen pyrohy for the Ukrainian Seminary Day picnic. We will be making the pyrohy at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23. All parishioners of both churches are welcome to help with this project. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support of this project. Theme Baskets Needed: Each parish has been asked to provide at least one theme basket for Ukrainian Seminary Day. Parishioners and parish organizations may also donate additional theme baskets. Please remember to provide the approximate value of the theme basket. Baskets should be at least $50.00 for individuals and no alcohol products can be accepted. Baskets can be taken to St. Nicholas picnic grove on July 26 th, 2015, or dropped off at Ss. Altar Servers Invited to Serve the Liturgy: All altar servers of our parishes are invited to serve the 11:00 AM Divine Liturgy on Sunday, July 26 th. They are asked to bring with them a cassock and light colored dalmatic. Special Collection for Ukrainian Seminary Day: A special third collection will be taken at all Divine Liturgies in both SS. Peter & Paul Church, and Assumption B.V.M. Church the weekend of Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, All proceeds will be presented to Bishop John Bura at the Seminary Day Picnic. Please be as generous as possible. Ukrainian Seminary Day Meeting: The next Ukrainian Seminary Day planning meeting will be held Tuesday, July 7 th at 7:00 PM at St. Michael s Hall in Frackville. This year s Ukrainian Seminary Day, which will be held Sunday, July 26 th at St. Nicholas Grove in Minersville, will be the 81 st observance of this social which was begun in the 1930 s to raise funds for our seminary. All parishioners are welcome to come to the meeting to offer their ideas and suggestions as the planning continues for this traditional celebration of faith and ethnic heritage. The funds raised by the deanery project, are credited towards each parish s seminary assessment on a pro-rated basis. Therefore the more chances a parish sells and the more ads a parish solicits, the greater seminary credit the parish receives. Since 1984, the parishes of the South Anthracite Deanery have raised over $738,000 for the support of our St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Seminary. Thank you for your anticipated support and participation. Plan to attend the meeting on July 7 th. Ukrainian Day Set-ups: We need as many parish volunteers as possible on Saturday morning, July 25 th at 9:00 AM to help set-up the picnic grounds for Ukrainian Seminary Day. If any of you can spare some of your time to help set-up it would be greatly appreciated. Ukrainian Day Clean-ups: We need parish volunteers on Monday morning, July 27 th at 9:00 AM to help clean-up the picnic grounds after Ukrainian Seminary Day. If any of you can spare some of your time to help clean-up it would be greatly appreciated. Attending the Picnic: We would like to invite everyone to come out on Sunday, July 26 th to support the 81 st Annual Seminary Day picnic, held at St. Nicholas Grove, in Primrose. This event will have lots of food, fun, and entertainment all day. Also, anyone interested in helping with this event is invited as well, help is needed. Thank you in advance for your support.
