As we strive to live good Christian lives, it is important we fill our minds and hearts with things that are of the Lord. Please take advantage of this opportunity to grow in faith and knowledge. A Reminder All are reminded that it is our tradition to stand in prayer during the Easter season. There are two postures for prayer during the period from Easter to Pentecost - standing or sitting. We all kneel again in prayer fifty days from the Resurrection of Our Lord to the special Pentecost Kneeling Prayers. This tradition gives a visible sign of our belief that God revealed something wonderful by the Resurrection of Christ, namely that the human life is eternal and immortal because it is sharing in the life of God Himself. We stand during this period to proclaim our awareness that we are not slaves but children of the heavenly Father we are the sons and daughters of the Most High. Unlike most slaves, who in the lands of the East, had to kneel when they were in the presence of their master, we stand in the presence of our Father. We are, because of His gift of Life, His heirs. We stand in recognition of this great honor. You are also reminded that.we joyously sing the Easter Tropar (Christ is Risen from the dead) Tropar should be sung with enthusiasm (it is not a funeral dirge). It should be sung with a lively and spirited pace! Ukrainian Day Raffle Tickets Raffle tickets for Ukrainian Seminary Day are available in the vestibule of both churches and in the parish office. 6 Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical Epistle: Acts 20:16-18, Gospel: Jn 17:1-13 Troparion Angelic Powers descended to Your grave, * and the guards fell down and appeared dead.. * Mary came to the grave seeking Your most pure body. * You conquered and despoiled the Abyss without being touched by it. * You, the Giver of Life, met the Virgin. * O Lord, risen from the dead, glory be to You. You ascended in glory, O Christ our God; * You delighted the Disciples with the promise of the Holy Spirit. * Through this blessing they were assured * that You are the Son of God, * the Redeemer of the World. O Christ our God, You are above all praise, * for You established our Fathers as lights to all the earth. * You led us to the true faith through them. * O Most Bountiful Lord, glory be to You. Kontakion Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. The preaching of the Apostles * and the decisions of the Fathers * have established the true faith of the Church * which she wears as the garment of truth * fashioned from the theology on high. She justly governs and glorifies the great mystery of worship. Now and ever and forever. Amen. When you fulfilled the plan of salvation for us * and united all things on earth to those in heaven, * O Christ our God, You ascended in glory, * never leaving us, but remaining ever- present. * For You proclaimed to those who love you: * I am with you and no one else has power over you. Prokimen Blessed are You, and praiseworthy, O Lord, the God of our Fathers, and glorious forever is Your Name. V. In all that You have done Your justice is apparent. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! V. The God of gods, the Lord has spoken and summoned the earth, from the rising of the sun to its setting. V. Summon before Me My people who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice. Communion Hymn Praise you the Lord of heaven. Praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia! (3x) Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical The Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical commemorates the 318 God-bearing Fathers who gathered in Nicaea in 325 at the request of the Emperor, Saint Constantine the Great, to address the heresy of Arianism together with other issues that concerned the unity of the Church. Arius was a protopresbyter of the Church of Alexandria, and in 315, he began to blaspheme against the Son of God saying that He was not the true God, consubstantial with the Father, but rather a work or creation of God and different from the essence and glory of the Father. He also taught that the Son of God had a beginning. These teachings shook the faithful at Alexandria. The Bishop of Alexandria, Alexander, attempted to correct Arius through admonitions, cut him off from communion, and finally deposed him in 321 through a local council. Arius continued with his heretical teachings, creating controversy and division in the churches of other cities, which led to a theological and ecclesiastical crisis throughout the Christian Church. Moved with divine zeal and concern for unity, the Emperor Constantine the Great, equal to the Apostles, summoned the First Ecumenical in Nicaea, a city of Bithynia. It was in this place that the bishops of the Church gathered in 325. All of them, with one mouth and one voice, declared that the Son and Word of God is one in essence with the Father, true God of true God. The Fathers composed the holy symbol of Faith, the Nicene Creed. The icon of the Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical depicts Saint Constantine together with the God-bearing Fathers and Saints of the Church who attended the and affirmed the unity of the Faith through the Nicene Creed. The Fathers are shown holding the text of the Creed, also referred to as the Symbol of Faith.
