2 November 13, 2016 TROPAR- Even though your tomb was sealed with a stone by your people and soldiers guarded your most pure body, you arose on the third day, O Savior, giving life to the world. And so the heavenly powers cried out to you, O Giver of life. Glory to your resurrection, O Christ. Glory to your lasting reign. Glory to your salvation plan, one and only true lover of all people. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and the Holy Spirit. Now and forever and ever. Amen. KONDAK- You arose from the grave as God in glory. With yourself you raised the world. All humanity acclaims your divinity in song, and death is no more. So Adam exults, O Master, and Eve now liberated from bonds cries out in jubilation: O Christ, it is you who give resurrection to all. PROKIMEN- My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior. Verse: For He has looked with favor on His lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blest. A reading from St. Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians (5:9-19) Brethren, for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them, for it is shameful even to mention the things done by them in secret; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says: "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. And do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another (in) psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and playing to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

GOSPEL Luke 10:25-37 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. Teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? What is written in the Law? he replied. How do you read it? He answered, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. You have answered correctly, Jesus replied. Do this and you will live. But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, And who is my neighbor? In reply Jesus said: A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. Look after him, he said, and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have. Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, The one who had mercy on him. Jesus told him, Go and do likewise. COMMUNION VERSE: I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. Alleluia. (3). LOTTERY TICKETS: Lottery tickets are available in the church basement for pick-up. The tickets are for the straight pick three for the month of February They are $5.00 each. Returns are due January 15, Please try to sell the tickets or as many tickets as you can. If we sell all the tickets, we stand to make a profit of $1,500. 4 CHURCH NEWS. MEMORIAL DONATION: A very sincere thank you for the memorial donation from Mr. & Mrs. Brad Sperry received in memory in of Michael Kulmatiski. Vichnaya Pamyat. May his Memory Be Eternal. PIGGIE DINNER: Our parish will hold a Fall Piggie Dinner on Sunday, November 13 in our hall. Serving will be from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $12.00 each. HALUSKI SALE: There will be a Haluski Sale at the Piggie Dinner. Haluski (cold) will be sold for $2.00 for a 16 ounce container. BASKET RAFFLE: There will be a basket raffle at the Piggie Dinner. Our parishioners really did a great job of coming up with neat inventive baskets!! CHRISTMAS BOUTIQUE TABLE: There will be a table of gently used Christmas Items for Sale to delight your holiday at the Piggie Dinner!! PYROHY SALE: We will be selling Potato Pyrohy on December 9 & 10. The cost of pyrohy is $6.00 per Dozen. Pyrohy orders will be capped at 300 dozen. Orders can be placed with Gerri Adamchak at Place your orders early! PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Tuesday, November 15 th at 6:30pm. Everyone is invited to participate! DIVINE LITURGIES: Please consider remembering your loved ones with a memorial liturgy either on Saturday or during the week. 5 LOCAL CHURCH NEWS HOAGIE SALE: Saint Nicholas Church, 153 East Main Street, Glen Lyon is holding a turkey hoagie and italian hoagie sale & bake sale on Thursday, November 17 from 11AM to 5PM in the church hall. Orders can be placed by calling Debbie at by November 13. HARVEST DINNER: Sunday, November 20, St. Vladimir Greek Catholic Church, 428 North Main Ave, Scranton, PA will hold a Roast Beef, Mashed Potato, Gravy, Hot Vegetables, Dinner Roll, Coffee, Tea & Beverages. Adults:$13; Students(6-12)$8; no charge for children 5 and under. Advance reservations close November 13; No tickets sold at door. Take-outs available between 11:30pm- 12:00pm. 6 PRAYERS: Please remember in your prayers all who are in need of God s help. Remember those in the nursing facilities, hospital and at home, all the sick and the suffering. PHILLIPS FAST: Please keep in mind that Phillip s Fast begins on the day after the Feast Day of the Apostle Phillip, Tuesday, November 15 and continues until December 24. It is the preparation period for the Feast of the Nativity. It is marked by fasting and abstaining from food and drink, almsgiving and prayer. Our clergy wears dark (usually red) colored vestments on weekdays during this time period and our liturgical practices remain unchanged. In the Roman Catholic Church, Advent begins its church year, prepares its members for Christ's Coming, and is about one month in duration. It focuses on one's prayer life and activities such as the lighting of the Advent Wreath. Its clergy wears purple, with the exception of one Sunday, when rose-colored vestments may be worn. What were we to fast from? Physical fasting means to go without food or drink for a period of time or to limit the amount of food one eats. Fasting differs from abstinence in that abstinence simply means we just don't eat certain foods for a period of time. In more recent times, we in the Ukrainian Catholic Church have been encouraged to abstain from meat on Wednesdays and Fridays, but we are not obliged to fast, abstain, do penance or pray during the preparatory period before Christmas. We are simply encouraged to do so, for our own good.
