2 TENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST July 29, 2018 TROPAR: Though the stone was sealed by the Judeans, and soldiers guarded Your most pure body, You arose, O Saviour, on the third day, and gave life to the world. And so the heavenly powers cried out to You, O Giver of Life: Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ! Glory to Your kingdom! Glory to Your saving plan, O only Lover of mankind. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. KONTAK: You arose in glory from the tomb and with Yourself You raise the world. All humanity acclaims You as God. and death has vanished. A reading from St. Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians (4:9-16): Brethren, for it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored! To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world right up to this moment. I am writing this not to shame you but to warn you as my dear children. Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore, I urge you to imitate me.

Gospel of Matthew 17:14-23: At that time, a certain man approached Jesus and knelt before him. Lord, have mercy on my son, he said. He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him. You unbelieving and perverse generation, Jesus replied, how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me. Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, Why couldn t we drive it out? He replied, Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life. 4 CHURCH NEWS HAPPY BIRTHDAY! A Very Happy Belated Birthday to our distant parishioner, Mrs. Leona Kobela who celebrated her birthday on July 25th. FLEA MARKET: We are looking have our flea market on consecutive Saturdays in September. The flea market will be held Sept 8 and Sept 15. Stuff can be brought to the church hall starting Sept 2. LUC MEETING: INVITATION: Father Walter Pasicznyk, pastor of the Hanover section of Nanticoke s Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, extends a warm invitation to a special celebration of the Transfiguration of Our Lord s Feast Day Parish Celebration on Sunday, August 5, The day will begin with Divine Liturgy at 10:305am followed by a summer picnic in the church s basement hall and on the church grounds. At 2:00pm the parish sponsored meeting of the North Anthracite Council of the League of Ukrainian Catholics (LUC) will take place. All parishioners and LUC members are warmly welcomed to attend. 5 84th Annual Ukrainian Seminary Day Will Be Held Sunday, July 29; Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be Celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Minersville, PA.--The 84th Annual Ukrainian Seminary Day will be held Sunday, July 29 th at St. Nicholas Church Picnic Grounds in Primrose (just outside Minersville), Schuylkill County, Pa. This annual event is sponsored by the 12 parishes and faithful of the South Anthracite Deanery under the leadership of their respective pastors. Bishop Andriy Rabiy will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. with clergy of the South Anthracite Deanery. Entertainment includes The Kaska Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, Spiv Zhyttya (Living in Song) and John Stevens Doubleshot Polka Band. DORMITION PILGRIMAGE - BUS TRIP: Scranton s St. Vladimir parish has chartered a 33- passenger bus to the Sunday, August 12, Holy Dormition Pilgrimage on the beautiful grounds of St. Mary Villa in Sloatsburg, New York which is the Motherhouse of our Sisters of Mary Immaculate. Departure will be at 7:30am from St. Vladimir Church in order to arrive in time for the 10:30am Pontifical Divine Liturgy. The afternoon consists of Blessing of the Sick, Blessing of Flowers and Religious Articles, Stations of the Cross and Moleben to the Mother of God. Departure for home will be at approximately 4:30pm. Food and refreshments will be available on the Villa grounds. We are told sufficient seating will be available for the Divine Liturgy, however we are encouraged to take a folding chair along for the purpose of relaxing on the grounds of the Villa. A donation of $20.00 is requested and check should be made out to St. Vladimir Church.
