A Reminder: All are reminded that it is our tradition to stand in prayer during the Easter season. There are two postures for prayer during the period from Easter to Pentecost standing or sitting. We all kneel again in prayer fifty days from the Resurrection of Our Lord to the special Pentecost "Kneeling Prayers." This tradition gives visible sign of our belief that God revealed something wonderful by the resurrection of Christ, namely that human life is eternal and immortal because it is sharing in the life of God Himself. We stand during this period to proclaim our awareness that we are not "slaves" but "children" of the Heavenly Father- we are the sons and daughters of the Most High. Unlike most slaves who, in the lands of the East, had to kneel when they were in the presence of their master, we stand in the presence of our Father. We are, because of His gift of life, His heirs. We stand in recognition of this great honor. You are also reminded that.... we "joyously" sing the Easter Tropar (Christ is Risen from the dead) for forty days until Ascension Thursday. This Tropar should be sung with enthusiasm (it is not a funeral dirge). It should be sung with a lively and spir~ted pace!

9 May you be blessed, 0 Lord, for having promised the Kingdom of Heaven to those who have the spirit of poverty. Pardon us for our excessive attachment to money, to comforts, and to creatures at the cost of our attachment to you, and for failing to share with the needy whom we have met. May you be blessed, 0 Lord, for having promised your inheritance to those who are kind and gentle. Pardon us for being impatient with others, especially in our families, in our parish, and in our work. Pardon our hostility toward those who disagree with us, who are not of our kind. May we be blessed, 0 Lord, for having offered your divine consolation to those who are afflicted. Pardon us for seeking consolation in anything but you, and for neglecting to comfort others when we saw their needs, especially the homeless, the hungry, the depressed, and the dejected. May you be blessed, 0 Lord, for you satisfy those who hunger and thirst for justice. Pardon us for considering ourselves better than others, and for not having the courage to take an unpopular stand '.vhen justice seemed to require it, and pardon us for our convenient disregard for the truth. Blessed are you, 0 Lord, for you show mercy to the merciful. Pardon us for not forgiving others as true Christians must, in our parish, or work, in our recreation or socializing, and in our communities. Pardon us for our lack of compassion toward the broken ones of this world. Blessed are you, 0 Lord, because you show yourself to the pure of heart. Pardon our lack of sincerity with you and your neighbor... and for the misuse of all good and holy things your have given us, especially the misuse of our time and our talents. May you be blessed, 0 Lord, for promising peace to all of good will. Pardon us 0 Lord, for our divisiveness and our lack of understanding, which has caused the destruction of peace both in our personal daily lives and in our community. May you be blessed, 0 Lord, for promising the Kingdom of Heaven to those who suffer for the cause of right. Pardon us for complaining for not seeing your holy presence in our personal troubles, for not proclaiming our belief in your goodness through every trial we experience. As we for give one another, forgive us, 0 Lord. Happy Mothers Day!!!!!

But the Lord bestowed sight on the one who was blind from birth - not by a word, but by an outward action. He did this neither casually nor simply because this was how it happened. He did it tliis way in order to show it was the same hand of God here that had also formed man at the beginning. And therefore when His disciples asked Him why He had been born blind, whether by his own fault or his parents', Jesus said, "Neither this man sinned, nor his parents, but that the works of God might be manifested in him." The work of God is, after all, the forming of man. He did this by an outward action, as Scripture says, '~nd the Lord took clay from earth, and formed man." Notice here too how the Lord spit on the earth, and made clay and smeared it on his eyes, showing how the ancient creation was made. He was making clear to those who can understand, that this was the hand of God through which man was formed from clay. For what the creating Word had neglected to form in the womb, this He supplied openly. He did this so that the works of God might be evident in Him, and so that we would now seek for no other hand than that through which humanity was formed. Nor should we seek another Father, knowing that the hand of God which formed us in the beginning, and forms in the womb, has in the last times sought us lost ones out. He is gaining his own lost sheep and putting it on his shoulders and joyfully restoring it to the fold of life. St. Irenaeus of Lyon Eastern Christian Bulletin Service-- PO Box Fairfax, VA Ph: Fax:
