The link between Eugenics, Abortion, Euthanasia, and Planned Parenthood April 10, 2018 (Live Action News) Believe it or not, Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger did not introduce abortion to the organization. It was a man, Alan F. Guttmacher (after whom the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute is named), who did so. But Sanger has a very controversial history as an enthusiastic proponent of eugenics and as a member of the American Eugenics Society. The philosophy of eugenics not only fed her work within the Planned Parenthood movement, but her lesser known advocacy of euthanasia as well. The organizations Sanger founded, such as the American Birth Control League (ABCL), and later, Planned Parenthood, also have ties to many eugenics proponents. Under the philosophy of eugenics, minorities and the poor, as well as others deemed to be "feebleminded or unfit" were sometimes sterilized by the state. And at times, state sterilization boards used Planned Parenthood to commit these surgeries. Sanger's advocacy of eugenics reveals that her desire was initially to sterilize those she deemed "unfit." It wasn't until after these inhumane, eugenic methods were challenged in court that abortion was introduced into Planned Parenthood as an organization. 4 PARISH EVENTS FEAST OF ST. JEAN BAPTISTE (WITH VESPERS & DINNER) FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2018 Come join us for the St. John the Baptist celebration being held Friday, June 22 nd from 6 pm 8 pm. There will be a blessing of the bonfire, vespers sung in the church and a light informal dinner on the piazza or upper hall depending upon the weather. Tickets are only a $1 per person (all ages) so an accurate headcount can be made and will be sold after all the Masses every Sunday up to June 17 th. We hope you can attend this beautiful service and honor St. John as the French Canadians did who first settled this area. ALL-PARISH POTLUCK LUNCHEON FOR ANDREW STEELE & HIS FAMILY S FAREWELL JUNE 24 As many of you know, our Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation, Andrew Steele, is leaving the parish on July 6 for further studies in Austria. He and his beautiful family will be dearly missed and members of the Faith Formation community, the Knights and Parish Staff are joining together to host an ALL-PARISH POT- LUCK LUNCHEON for them after the 11:00 AM Mass on June 24. If you re not in one of these groups but would like to bring a dish, please feel free to do so. This will give everyone an opportunity to express appreciation for all they ve given to our parish these past two years (Andrew as head of Faith Formation and Melissa as a valued member of the choir) and wish them each well in fulfilling their exciting new goals.
