5 The Trinity Lutheran Church Messenger May 11, 2014 Our Summer worship hours begin Thursday, May 22 nd at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 25 at 9:30 a.m. Summer worship hours will go through Labor Day Weekend. Adam Archer Meet our new Vicar for His name is Adam Archer. He is from Olympia Washington. He is also a PACKER FAN!!! Adam will be arriving in August. Joshua Reinke: Our former Vicar, Joshua Reinke was called to serve at St. John s/our Savior s English Evangelical, Wright/McGregor, Minnesota. Tim Fraker: Husband of Darci Bergelin was called to Trinity Lutheran Church, Weatherford, Texas. CONFIRMATION: Examination and Confirmation will be held this morning at the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service. Congratulations and God s blessings to our 2014 Confirmands, Kathryn Christine Berg and McKenna Lee Kolb. TRINITY PICNIC: Mark your calendars. Our Church Picnic will be held, Sunday, May 18. after the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service. There will be outdoor games for the Children (weather permitting) and bingo for ALL. Children will receive tickets for ice cream and candy bars. Come enjoy some Hamburgers, Brats, FUN and fellowship!! DARTBALL: Trinity finished second place in the Eastern Wisconsin Lutheran Dartball League. They also finished in 3rd place in February in the League s Annual Tournament. Team members are: Harvey and Jan Grunewald, Wally and John Born, Jake and Alex Milbrath, Loren Reineman, Chris, Jordan and Lance Liermann, Dave Henschel Jr. and John and Josh Perronne. CONGRATULATIONS!!! JUNE 1, WORSHIP SERVICE: Pastor Tim Fraker, husband of Darci Bergelin, will be preaching at our Sunday, June 1, :30 a.m. Worship Service. HOSPITALIZED: Marvin Siegert is hospitalized at St. Luke s in Milwaukee. Please keep Marvin and his family in your prayers. 6 THANK YOU: Thank you to Jim and Connie Schmitt for the beautiful picture displayed in the lower fellowship hall. The picture is of the Lord s Supper. It is a 1000 piece puzzle they put together. They glued the pieces, put a shellac finish on and framed it. It s beautiful. Thank you Jim and Connie!! SCRIP: HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!! If you aren't sure what to get your mother or loved one, you could choose a scrip card to fit her needs. We have many to choose from. We also have $25.00 cards for the Marcus Movie Theater of which Trinity gets 9% back. If anyone is a movie fan, Marcus Movie Theaters have $5.00 Tuesdays. Please consider becoming a Scrip customer. It is a great and easy way to help raise money for our church. Please stop at the table in the Narthex and a scrip coordinator will help you. Your East Sheboygan County Thrivent Chapter has chosen to collect items for Safe Harbor as part of our Chapter Project. They are asking all local churches to collect some items from the list below. ALL ITEMS MUST BE NEW. They will collect the items at the Sheboygan A s Game on July 23rd. They will deliver the items to Safe Harbor. Come join us at the A s Game on July 23rd for a night of fun. The theme for the night is Christmas in July! We will sing Christmas carols and enjoy ice cream sundaes! There is a green tote in the narthex located by the information table to put your donated items in. The Safe Harbor Donation List: Dry Goods, Blankets, Paper Goods, Pillows, Towels, Cleaning Supplies, Bed Linens (Full and Twin), Razors, Comforters, Personal hygiene items. PRESCHOOL: The last day for Trinity s Preschool is Thursday, May 22 nd. The children will sing at the Thursday 7:00 p.m. Worship Service. A graduation party in the Lower Fellowship Hall will follow after the 7:00 p.m. Service. All are invited to attend. Preschool enrollment is now being accepted for the school year. Vacation Bible School GANGWAY!! Clear the way!! In Gangway to Galilee Vacation Bible School, your children learn that Jesus gives amazing grace to us all! The Children will hear 5 amazing Bible accounts that take place on the Sea of Galilee or its shore. This Vacation Bible School is an adventure of Amazing Grace! There will be fun activities, singing, crafts and snacks. We are asking for donations of cookies as the children will certainly get hungry on their Gangway to Galilee Adventure. Vacation Bible School is June 16-20, 2014 from 8:00 11:30 a.m. VBS is for ages Please register no later than June 1, We are also in need of teachers and helpers. 7 BREWER GAME: Just a reminder that the Brewer/Cub game is this Saturday, May 17 th. The bus will be leaving from Church at 8:30 a.m. Lunch and beverages will be served on the bus. If you are signed up and have not paid for your tickets, please do so as soon as possible. Please put your check in the secretary s church mail box. WASHINGTON ISLAND GETAWAY: A few people still owe for the Washington Island Getaway. Checks may be made payable to Trinity Lutheran Church. On Friday, July 25 th we will be taking a Discovery Coach Bus to Door County and then taking the ferry to Washington Island. While we are at Washington Island we will be taking the Cherry Train Tour of the Island which will include stops at the Stave Church, School House Beach, and the historic Indian Museum. A soup and sandwich lunch with cherry pie is included. Later in the afternoon, we will return to the mainland and make our way to the Seaquist Orchards Market and Door Peninsula Winery. The cost is $80.00/person which includes the Motorcoach Transportation, Ferry Crossing, Guided Cherry Train Tour, all attractions, lunch and gratuities. The bus will leave Trinity at 7:00 a.m. and return to Trinity at 8:00 p.m. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the Narthex. There are a few spaces remaining. Children 12 and under are $ What a perfect way to spend a summer day. PRAYER CHAIN: If you would like someone to pray for you or know someone that is in need of prayer for any reason, Trinity has a prayer chain. THRIVENT MEMBERS: Direct Choice Dollars through May 31, 2014 and Thrivent Financial will provide an additional one-time grant of $20 to our church for each member who chooses to direct choice dollars to our congregation. For more information, please visit SPRING POPS CONCERT: On Wednesday, May 21, the Lutheran High Music Department will be presenting its annual Spring POPS Concert. The concert will be held in the Lutheran High School Gymnasium and will begin at 7:00 p.m., with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to help support the music department at LHS. The concert will feature selections from Mary Poppins, Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of the Caribbean and much more. We would love to see you there! ANNUAL LUTHERAN-KOHLER ALUMNI BASEBALL GAME: The Lutheran-Kohler Baseball team is hosting their Annual Alumni Baseball Game on Saturday, June 28. A word about WORRY Written by Pastor Bergelin. Posted on Facebook and Twitter on May 8, Let me begin by saying that I am quite good at it. I have written on this topic before. I am not proud of the fact that I worry. I know I do not need to worry because I have the Lord and He is always at my side. But knowing better doesn't seem to eliminate the problem. However help does come when I look to God's word and listen to what the Lord Himself says on the subject. The Lord does address the topic head on. It begins at Matthew 6:25. Jesus Himself is doing the talking. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?" From here you may recall the passage goes on to remind a person of how the Lord takes care of the birds flying around in the air and the grass and flowers that grow in the field, and then the Lord makes this point. If He watches over and cares for such insignificant things, won't He surely watch over and care for you? The obvious answer is, of course He will. Now here is the part that makes me squirm. Worry and faith are linked together. The stronger ones faith becomes the greater the trust in the Lord and the less one worries. The more one worries, the less one trusts in the Lord and the smaller ones faith becomes. I will tell you right now, I need a stronger faith. But here is the point. Realizing how things are should not make one throw up ones hands in despair and say, there's no hope. Sometimes people do that. You hear them say, "Everybody worries." It almost sounds like a sad lament, there is nothing I can do about it, it's just the way life is. I hope you haven't bought in to that. There is something to do about it. The Lord Himself tells us His word strengthens faith. The truths of His word equip us for life. Take heart the Lord says, I will uphold you, I will be with you, I will never leave you or forsake you. I love you. I died for you and I have poured out my blood for you and have forgiven you. I have given you the sure promise of eternal life in heaven. Do you really think I will let you down during your life on this earth? And since you and I know that He won't, we no longer have anything to ever have to worry about. Cast all your worries on Him because He cares for you. I Peter 5:7 8
