And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts. 2 But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD. 4 Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the LORD as in the days of old and as in former years. 5 Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the LORD of hosts. 6 For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. 7 From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts. But you say, How shall we return? This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 4 HOLY GOSPEL: Luke 3:1-14 The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke the 3rd chapter beginning at verse 1. Glory to you, O Lord. 1In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 2 during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straight, and the rough places shall become level ways, 6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. 7 He said therefore to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. 9 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 10 And the crowds asked him, What then shall we do? 11 And he answered them, Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise. 12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? 13 And he said to them, Collect no more than you are authorized to do. 14 Soldiers also asked him, And we, what shall we do? And he said to them, Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages. to my voice. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to Thee, O Christ. THE APOSTLES CREED: (We confess together) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. ADVENT WORSHIP SERVICES We invite you to join us at our midweek Advent worship services are on Wednesday, December 12,19 at and 6:30pm. ADVENT MEALS We will once again be having our Advent meals following the Wednesday morning Advent worship service, and also Wednesday evenings on December 5,12,19th from 5-6:30pm. Rehearsal will be Saturday, December 15th at 10:00am. TRINITY MEMORIAL CARD If you or someone you know gives a memorial gift to Trinity in memory of a loved one, we now have memorial cards indicating your memorial was given to our church. The cards are located in the flyer rack in the narthex and are free of charge. SUNDAY SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CARDS Our Sunday school is selling beautiful Christmas cards at a GREAT price. Cards will be on the card table in the Narthex. Please put your payment in the money box that is provided. ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM If you would like to give your offering electronically or change your existing electronic offering, there are forms in the flyer rack located in the narthex. If you indicated on your stewardship form that you are interested in electronic giving a form has been put into your mailbox. PRESCHOOL WISH TREE The Trinity Pre-school wish tree is in the narthex. If you would like to purchase a gift for the pre-school, please take a star off of the tree and purchase the gift that is on the star. Please wrap your gift and put it under the tree with the star attached. Thank you! CHRISTIAN WOMEN S FELLOWSHIP The CWF Christmas Party is tomorrow, December 10th at 6:30pm. 6 SCRIP We can special order hundreds of scrip cards for your Christmas gifts, also we carry many in stock- BP gas, Kwik Trip, Festival Foods, Piggly Wiggly, Pick n Save, Miesfeld, Walmart, Kohl's, Bath and body, Target, Fleet Farm, Menards, Chilis, Log Cabin, Culver's, and Marcus Theater, and more. Gift cards are a great and easy way to do your shopping. The last day to special order will be Dec.16th - we will have the cards for you on Dec. 23rd. Just stop at the table in the narthex. Each card that is bought is the full amount for you but the church gets a percentage for each card sold. BUDGET MEETING There is a Budget Meeting with the Chairperson from each committee on Wednesday, December 12th following the Evening Advent Worship Service. VOTERS MEETING There is a Voters Meeting to approve the 2019 budget on Wednesday, December 19th following the evening Advent Worship Service. CEMETERY MEETING There is a cemetery meeting following the Voters Meeting on December 19th. INSTRUMENTALISTS WANTED If you play an instrument and would like to share your talent with the congregation, please contact Ann Parnitzke, or parnitzke5@yahoo.com. People of all ages are welcome. We would like to have instruments played for Christmas but also at times year round. POINSETTIAS Deadline to order is today. If you would like to order poinsettias there are order forms on the table in the narthex. The cost is $8.00. The deadline to order is Sunday, December 9th. Poinsettias will be placed on the altar and may be picked up following the Christmas Day worship service. Connie Hansen has offered to wrap Christmas presents on Sunday, Dec. 16th and the 23rd and donate the freewill offering back to church. Drop off your presents in the fellowship hall and she will wrap them during the late service. Connie will provide the wrapping materials. You will need to supply the boxes. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex. TODAY S LIGHT Ordering Today s Light is a great way to grow in your faith as you read through daily devotions and Scripture. Today s Light is a quarterly magazine that you will be able to read the entire Bible in 2 years. If you would like to order Today s Light, the cost is $27.00 for one year or $50.00 for 2 years. There are order forms on the table in the narthex. Your subscription will be ordered upon payment. Please put the order form and payment in Toni s(secretary) mailbox. SPECIAL OFFERING The special offering for December is for the Sheboygan County LCMS Chaplaincy. The offerings provide materials and needed supplies. IF YOU ARE IN THE HOSPITAL Please let us know if you are in the hospital. The hospital does not always notify us. MORNING MEDITATIONS Morning Meditations is a devotion by area LCMS Pastors each morning, Monday through Friday, on WHBL-1330AM at 7:26am and at 10:45am. Meditations for the week of December 10-14, 2018 are given by St. Paul s in Sheboygan.
