The purpose of our congregation is to worship God, who gives life through Word and Sacrament; to serve one another in love and fellowship; and to proclaim forgiveness and salvation to all through Jesus Christ alone. Before Worship As you prepare to worship your Lord today, spend a few quiet minutes in prayer before the service. Review the lessons, the service notes, and pray this prayer: Prayer of the Day Lord God, before the suffering and death of Your one and only Son, You revealed His glory on the holy mountain. Grant that we who bear His cross on earth may behold by faith the light of His heavenly glory and so be changed into His likeness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. For the Children A Cry-Room is available if your little ones need a moment. It is the first room on the left as you walk into the church building. The Confession of Sin P: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God, our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. 4 P: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean, and that we have sinned against You by thought, word, and deed. Therefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. C: O Most merciful God, You have given Your only-begotten Son to die for us; have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You, and of Your will, and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. P: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and has given His onlybegotten Son to die for us, and for His sake forgives us all our sins. 8 The Salutation The Collect P: Let us pray one God, now and forever. The Lesson Exodus 24:12, The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction." 15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16 and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud. 17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. 10:45 AM - Preschool Choir The Epistle 2 Peter 1: We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. 8

9 19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. The Verse of the Day P: Alleluia. A voice came from the cloud: This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him! Alleluia. (Mark 9:7b) The Alleluia The Holy Gospel P: The Holy Gospel for the Transfiguration of Our Lord is written in the 17 th chapter of the Gospel according to St. Matthew, beginning at the 1 st verse. The Gospel Matthew 17:1-9 1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters-- one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." 9

10 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid." 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead." P: This is the Holy Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Creed P: Let us confess our holy faith in the words of the Apostles Creed: C: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the Forgiveness of sins, the Resurrection of the body, and the Life everlasting. Amen. 10

13 The Prayer of the Church The Lord s Prayer C: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Hymn #225, With Trembling Awe the Chosen Three The Collect P: Let us give thanks and pray: We thank You, Lord God the Father, that You have given Your only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. We thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, that You have borne in Your sacred body all our sins, and by Your blood have blotted out all our transgressions. We thank You, Lord, the Holy Spirit, that You have created in our hearts true faith, that we know of nothing to trust for our salvation, except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. O God, grant us Your grace, that we may perfectly believe that all our sins are forgiven for the sake of the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, and so enlighten us by Your Holy Spirit, that, in the power of our Redeemer s death, we may day by day put off sin, and never forsake the Lord Jesus Christ, until we see Him face to face in life eternal. 15 Adult Bible Study topic: Love & Respect, will be on Sunday mornings at 9:45am; if you miss Sunday, it will be repeated on Thursday evening at 6:30PM. CROSSED Youth Group will meet tonight from 6:15-8:30 PM. All youth in grades 7-12 are invited to come for fun and fellowship. Contact Josh Mayer with any questions. Solid Grounds Bible Study meets on Tuesdays, at 9:00 AM. Everyone is invited to attend! Women of Peace will meet Tuesday at 10:00 AM, after the Bible Study. We hope you can join us! The Lenten season begins this Wednesday, March 5 th, with the Ash Wednesday Divine Service with Holy Communion, at 6:30 PM. Jesus' Lambs at Peace Preschoolers will perform the play, King Midas, on Friday, March 7 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The children in our 3-day classes will Show how the king learns to keep God as the most important in his life, then family, friends and all. Jesus Lambs at Peace Preschool s annual Open House will be Friday, April 8, 6-8 PM. Please bring your child to play, enjoy crafts, games, face-painting, entertainment and fun. This is a great way to familiarize your child with our Christ-centered preschool. Siblings are welcome too! We prepare children for Kindergarten with God s word at the center of all we do. 16 Join Us For Supper! Lenten suppers will be served from 5:15-6:15PM every Wednesday during the Lenten season. We have awesome cooks in our congregation come and enjoy the food and fellowship. Midweek Lenten services are held Wednesdays at 6:30pm. Lenten Services will be a rotation with ELS/WELS pastors.
