How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Glory to you, O Lord. 5 As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, 16 John answered them all, saying, I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. 6 BAPTISM CELEBRATION In Holy Baptism our sins are forgiven and we are granted a new life in Christ our Lord. We solemnly renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways; we confess the gift of faith in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I ask you anew: Do you renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways? I do renounce them. Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty? Yes, I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son? Yes, I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? Yes, I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Let us pray: Almighty God, we give thanks that Your Son Jesus suffered and died for our sins. We celebrate with joy His resurrection from the dead and ascension into heaven. We are grateful for the work of Your Holy Spirit in us, which brought us to faith by Baptism. We know that You are faithful in Your covenant with us. Keep us faithful as well. Show us the way You would have us live. In Jesus, our blessed Savior. Amen. (AGPS p ) Please be seated Hymn: 594 God s Own Child, I Gladly Say It Celebrating the Baptisms in the past year. The Word of God teaches that we are all conceived and born sinful and are under the power of the devil until Christ claims us as His own. We would be lost forever unless delivered from sin, death, and everlasting condemnation. But the Father of all mercy and grace has sent His Son Jesus Christ, who atoned for the sin of the whole world, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (LSB p. 268) Through the waters of baptism, Pierson Allan Gates became a child of God on June 24, Matthew 28: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. 6

7 Through the waters of baptism, Collins Clara Reiss became a child of God on July 15, Acts 2: And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. Through the waters of baptism, Miguel Enrique Jesus Yinko became a child of God on September 16, Mark 10: People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. Through the waters of baptism, Rylan Michael Bahr became a child of God on November 11, Peter 3:21 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through the waters of baptism, Nathaniel Michael Ardell became a child of God on November 25, 2018 Titus 3:5-7 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 7

8 Through the waters of baptism, Aiden James Holler became a child of God on November 28, Galatians 3: For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. Through the waters of baptism, Ava Marie Grunewald became a child of God on December 2, Corinthians 5:17 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Hymn: Please rise Let us pray, 605 Father Welcomes Almighty and most merciful God and Father, we thank and praise You that You have graciously preserved and enlarged Your family this past year, and have granted Pierson, Collins, Ava, Mia, Miguel, Rylan, Nathaniel, Aiden, and Ava, the new birth in Holy Baptism and made them members of Your dear Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and heirs of Your heavenly kingdom. We humbly implore you that, as they have become your children, You would keep them in their baptismal grace, that according to Your good pleasure they may faithfully grow to lead a godly life to the praise and honor of Your holy name and finally, with all your saints, obtain the promised inheritance in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 9 THE TRINITY MESSENGER JANUARY 13, 2019 VOTERS MEETING There is a voters meeting on Sunday, January 27th following the late worship service. There are minutes on the table in the narthex. The minutes were also ed. VICAR S BIBLE STUDY Martin Luther once identified three things that make a good theologian: prayer for the Holy Spirit to understand God s unique biblical Word; meditation on this Word; and, as the touchstone, enduring afflictions due to meditating on God s Word. Join together with Vicar Rusche for this 6 week Bible Study were we ll unpack what Scripture has to say about afflictions in the life of the Christian, the cross we will endure in various shapes and sizes, because we are Christians. Join us either Monday mornings at 10:00am or Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. ANNUAL REPORT DEADLINE DATE CHANGE Please have your information you would like in the annual report by January 15th. There is a NEW sign up sheet on the table in the narthex. SPECIAL OFFERING January The special offering for January is WJUB Radio Station for Lutheran Hour Broadcasts. Lutheran Hour is aired on 1420 am each Sunday morning from 8:00-8:30am. GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP The Sheboygan Lutheran High Girls Jr Crusader Basketball Program will be holding an informational meeting and camp registration at 5:00 on Thursday January 17 th in the Sheboygan Lutheran High commons. The basketball camp is for girls in 2 nd -8 th grade. Practices will be held at Sheboygan Lutheran High School from 6:00-7:30 every Tuesday night beginning April 2 nd and ending Tuesday July 23 rd. The cost of the camp is $45, which provides skill development and a team jersey. 10 LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE LHS Open House: Interested in attending LHS for the school year or do you know someone who is? Please attend the Sheboygan Lutheran High School Open House from 4:30 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15. 5th 8th grade students will have the opportunity to meet the teachers, explore class offerings and extra-curriculars, and get in free to the boys basketball game that evening. Tours of the school will be available and incoming freshmen can register and select classes (Sign-up on the LHS Website). A Shadow Day is also a great way to experience the daytime activity of high school. Spend a half or whole school day with an LHS freshman and attend classes, band/choir, enjoy lunch, and meet other students. Parents and students interested in the advanced and online classes at LHS are encouraged to attend the Open House for in-depth information on offerings, as well as our full curriculum list. For more information, contact the school office at CHRISTIAN WOMEN S FELLOWSHIP NEWS Just a reminder for members of CWF to bring their dimes for the dime project to our January14 th meeting. We will also have a Hymn Sing. All women from our congregation are welcome to attend. CHILI COOK OFF Trinity Lutheran Church Sheboygan, Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and Our Saviors Lutheran Church are having a Chili Cook-Off. The date is Friday, January 25th from 4:00-8:00pm. It will be held at Trinity in the gym. 824 Wisconsin Ave., in Sheboygan. A Free Will Offering will be accepted. All proceeds split evenly to benefit each congregation. 10% of proceeds to Benefit Sheboygan s Hispanic Lutheran Ministry. OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY AND BEST OF THE HOLY LAND Trinity Lutheran Church in Weatherford, Texas is taking a trip to the Holy Land and the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, June of 2020, and has invited our congregation to join them. Rev. Tim Fraker, husband of Darci Bergelin Fraker is the Pastor of Trinity. The first part of the trip is spent in the Holy Land where we will walk through the Garden of Gethsemane, sail on the Sea of Galilee, journey to Nazareth, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and so much more. The last week of the trip we fly to Munich and are transferred to Alpine Village. We will tour many places, but the main attraction is the Passion play. The Passion Play is a reenactment of the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ and is performed every 10 years. Performers were born in Oberammergau or have lived there for at least 20 years. Over 2000 Oberammergau villagers will participate in the 2020 Passion Play. The trip is June 15-June 27, There are brochures located on the table in the narthex describing the entire trip. If you are interested in this trip, please write your name on the form in the narthex. This does not lock you into the trip. We would just like to know if there is anyone interested from our church. HOLY LAND/PASSION PLAY 2020 TRIP INFORMATION SESSION There will be an information session about the Holy Land/Passion Play trip on Sunday, January 20th right after late service in the Confirmation room off of the narthex. Join Darci (Bergelin) Fraker for a chance to learn more about the trip and to ask any questions you might have. 10

Scrip is an easy fund-raiser for our church. Each card sold our church receives a percentage. Scrip has helped pay for many improvements at Trinity. We encourage you to buy scrip for all your shopping needs. MORNING MEDITATIONS Morning Meditations is a devotion by area LCMS Pastors each morning, Monday through Friday, on WHBL-1330AM at 7:26am and at 10:45am. Meditations for the week of January 14-18, 2019 are given by St. Paul's in Sheboygan Falls. You may also listen to Morning Meditations at IF YOU ARE IN THE HOSPITAL Please let us know if you are in the hospital. The hospital does not always notify us. They are made for anyone that needs cheering up. A lot of prayer goes into these shawls and is sure to make your friend or family member feel better.
