2 OPENING HYMN: 685 Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus All: ABSOLUTION: Please be seated. HYMN: In the name of God the Father who created us, in the name of God the Son who redeemed us, in the name of God the Holy Spirit who sanctifies us. In the name of the Triune God, the only true God, we begin our worship this day. To Him be all honor and glory now and forever. Our help is in the name of the Lord. Our God is a great God. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. With him nothing shall be impossible. With God all things are possible. But we by ourselves have fallen short, we have sinned, we do not deserve to be called God s children. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Let us kneel and confess our sins to God our Father. Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Almighty God in his mercy has given his Son to die for you and for his sake forgives you all your sins. 3 THE EPISTLE: Hebrews 2: Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 2 For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, 12 saying, I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise. 13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold, I and the children God has given me. 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. 4 HOLY GOSPEL: Mark 10:2-16 The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark the 10th chapter beginning at verse 2. Glory be to Thee, O Lord. 2 And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife? 3 He answered them, What did Moses command you? 4 They said, Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away. 5 And Jesus said to them, Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. 7 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. 10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery. 13 And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. 16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. 6 Trinity Lutheran Church Messenger SPECIAL DOOR OFFERING A special door offering will be received at our worship services today for hurricane and flooding survivors in the Carolina's. Our Tabitha fund will match up to the first $1,000 received. PASTORS CONFERENCE Vicar Rusche and Pastor Bergelin will be away Monday through Wednesday noon of this coming week attending the South Wisconsin District Fall Pastors Conference. They will return in time for Wednesday evening confirmation classes. VICAR S BIBLE CLASS WILL NOT BE HELD THIS WEEK. Due to the Pastors Conference, Vicar Rusche s Bible Study will not be held this week. MORNING MEDITATIONS Morning Meditations is a devotion by area LCMS Pastors each morning, Monday through Friday, on WHBL-1330AM at 7:26am and at 10:45am. Meditations for the week of October 8-12 are given by Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. You may also listen to Morning Meditations at The youth group will be participating in a Feed My Starving Children youth challenge food packing event at St Paul s Sheboygan Falls on Friday, October 12 th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. If you would like to attend, please sign up in the Narthex. We have spots for 10 youth to attend. There will be an informational meeting for the 2019 National Youth Gathering on October 14 th immediately after late service. All youth in grades 8 12 along with their parents are invited to attend. We will provide information on the gathering and answer any initial questions. Since it will be close to lunch time, pizza s will be served. REFORMATION SERVICE Reformation Service is Sunday, October 28th at 3:30 pm. The Service will be held at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts at 826 N. 8th St. in downtown Sheboygan. Rev. Jonah Burakowski, the South Wisconsin District Mission Executive, will be the guest preacher. TRINITY CLOTHING We have Trinity clothing in stock and can also be ordered. You may also order clothing that day so it s here for Christmas. LET S TALK SEMINARY Have you every thought of being a Pastor or Deaconess? If so, Rev. Bill Wrede from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis would like to meet with you here at Trinity on Monday, October 22nd, anytime between 4:00-8:00pm. Rev. Wrede is interested in meeting with prospective students of all ages elementary school through adults. Conferences are individual, informal and family and friends are welcome. 7 OCTOBER SPECIAL OFFERING Laborers for Christ The LCMS, Laborers for Christ program is made up of volunteers who travel around the country and help churches build facilities. In the summer of 1994, seven laborers and their spouses spent all or part of the summer at Trinity building our new Narthex and Sunday school room addition. LHS HOLIDAY WREATH SALE. Lutheran High School will be offering the same selection of balsam wreaths, stars, crosses, candy canes and garland at the same prices as last year. Order deadline is October 19th and wreaths will be available at Trinity on Sunday, November 25th. LWML SUNDAY LWML Sunday will be October 14th here at Trinity. The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) helps women of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) find avenues to use their God-given talents as they joyfully share the Good News of Jesus Christ with people far and near. Through the LWML, thousands of volunteers daily dedicate their lives to making a difference in this world. They equip themselves for the task through prayer, encouraging Bible studies, and mission education. LWML has a Mite Box on the table in the narthex. All Trinity Members are encouraged to put their coins in the mite box. Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite (Luke 21:1 4), the Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of "mites" offerings above and beyond the support given to congregations and the LCMS. Mite Box contributions amount to millions of dollars that fund district and national mission grants and implement the LWML program. FATHER SON BANQUET The Father and Son banquet will be held on Thursday Evening, October 25th at 6:30pm. Rev. Douglas Bergelin will be the guest speaker. More information to follow. HEARING LOOP SYSTEM If you have trouble hearing our worship services, we offer a hearing loop system. Please see the ushers for assistance. OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY AND BEST OF THE HOLY LAND Rev. Tim Fraker, husband of Darci Bergelin Fraker of Trinity Lutheran Church in Weatherford, Texas is taking a trip to the Holy Land and the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, June of 2020, and has invited our congregation to join them. The first part of the trip is spent in the Holy Land where we will walk through the Garden of Gethsemane, sail on the Sea of Galilee, journey to Nazareth, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and so much more. The last week of the trip we fly to Munich and are transferred to Alpine Village. We will tour many places, but the main attraction is the Passion play. The Passion Play is a reenactment of the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ and is performed every 10 years. Performers were born in Oberammergau or have lived there for at least 20 years. Over 2000 Oberammergau villagers will participate in the 2020 Passion Play. The trip is June 15-June 27, There are brochures located on the table in the narthex describing the entire trip.
