All news, feature items, and opinion articles must be signed by the author (items sent via are considered signed if from your own address). 2 March 2016 Page 2 FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE MARCH 2016 We have a moral obligation to invite every eligible Catholic man to join the Knights of Columbus. Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight My Brother Sir Knights in Christ, This month we should be preparing for our most memorable event of the year. Our 4 th Degree Exemplification is scheduled for Saturday, April 16, 2016, and will be hosted at the Doubletree Hotel, Sacramento. The Patriotism Degree is the cornerstone of our Assembly. For those of you that attend frequently, you are reinvigorated with the spirit of this Degree. And you are an example to the candidates and new Sir Knights contemplating this marvelous event. It is like no other. At our next meeting on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 (at St. Joseph Marello, Council 13518, Granite Bay) we will be voting to accept several candidates Form 4. The deadline to submit candidates Form 4 s to the District Secretary is April 5, But please let us no wait until the last day. If you have any candidates seeking entry into Mother Lode Assembly 2778, please have them come to the Tuesday meeting. Remember the cost is $ The initiation fee is $70.00, and includes the dinner ticket. $17.00 is the pro-rated dues for the remainder of this year. Please have the check accompany the Form 4. The Lenten season is almost over and Easter Sunday and Season is almost upon us. May you all continue to be blessed and your faith bolstered by the events of Holy Week. 3 March Color Corps Report For Feb 17 th through March 15 th, we have had only one call-out for assistance outside of our area. The Worthy Marshall has requested our assistance at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursday, March 17 th for the Chrism Mass at 6:00PM. The detailed information was forwarded to all Color Corps members via . As of the writing of this report no member had volunteered to participate in this event. St. Joseph Marello parish has requested Color Corps for Holy Thursday, March 24 th, for the removing of the Eucharist from the main tabernacle to the side altar until Holy Saturday. Brother Pete Lopez will forward the details of the request at our meeting on the 15 th. So far, Brothers Pete Lopez and Bruce Amundson have volunteered to participate. I anticipate that St. Joseph in Auburn will be making the same request when Father Cesar returns from vacation on March 18 th. The Color Corps will start practicing every month one hour prior to the meeting on the third Tuesday (this month is March 15 th.). Color Corps members that can participate, please bring your sword, baldric and chapeau. As reported last month, we have five (5) red capes, one (1) white cape, three (3) swords, four (4) chapeaus and one (1) pair of shoes available to loan to any member wishing to become a Color Corps member. We also have enough funds to advance to any member wishing to become a Color Corps member to purchase his own equipment to be repaid to the MLA over the next year or two. Starting at the March 15 th meeting the Color Corps will start practicing one hour prior to the monthly assembly meeting. NORM CHAVEZ, Color Corps Commander, MLA

5 March 2016 Page 5 CHALICE / MASS KIT REPORT March 2016 Some of you may recollect my many lamentations concerning the lack of brothers willing to participate in the Chalice Program. As noted, it seems everyone wants to go to Heaven but no one wants to go now. Well, if you are interested but not quite sure of how to hasten your way to Heaven and your name engraved upon a chalice, there is assistance available. Seriously, and this did not require the passing of any oxymoronic assisted suicide law. All you need to do is be a veteran and receiving what the VA calls health care. The current witness to the government s centuries long screwing of those who sacrificed so much to enable our politicians to remain unscathed is SK Tony Ventura. Per Tony s report, he came out of Vietnam 100% disabled. This did not preclude him from a long career in the financial industry but has left him dependent upon the VA for health care since He has experienced prostate problems since In spite of PSA reading in excess of seven, the VA doctors never performed a biopsy to determine if the PSA readings were false negatives or false positives. This is, brothers, standard medical protocol. After several years of attempting to get the VA to relieve his suffering, they finally, checked his prostate. By then he had stage four prostate cancer. Now, he has to fight them to provide treatment which is still not yet forthcoming and may be too little too late. He has contacted Congressman McClintock and so have I about this situation. If only half of what Tony reports is true, it is inexcusable and may be criminal. Why our elected officials continue to allow this type of treatment of Veterans to continue escapes any good excuses I can formulate. We should all be unrelenting in our contacts with the politicians who allow this ongoing travesty of treatment of our veterans by the VA.
