2 January 2019 Page 2 Brother Sir Knights: FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S REPORT January 2019 Happy New Year all! Reminder: January 1 st is not only New Year s Day but also a Holy Day of Obligation the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. The Christmas season traditionally ends January 6 th with the celebration of the Epiphany of the Lord and marks the beginning of Ordinary Time. Starting in January the focus for our Assembly will also shift to our preparations to recruit 3 rd Degree members in our Councils to fill out their Form 4 s, be vetted and voted on to become candidates for the 4 th Degree. The Exemplification is mid-april and believe me that weekend will be upon us in a blink of an eye. I challenge every Assembly member to ask a 3 rd Degree member in your Council to become a Sir Knight. Get a filled out Form 4 and bring it to our January Assembly meeting on January 15th 7:30 PM at St Joseph Church Hall. We can check to see if all the filled out information is correct and vote on the candidate. The old excuses about tuxedos are gone as a business suit is acceptable for the Exemplification. Often I have found a Knight has not become a Sir Knight because he was simply not asked and encouraged to step up and take the Patriotic Degree. Like the Marines we need a few good men- -you know them best so please ask them to become Sir Knights. We are planning to have an orientation meeting for 4 th Degree Candidates and their Spouses towards the end to February at the Church Hall with snacks and drinks so they know what to expect at the Exemplification and the activities over that weekend. We will recruit right up to the April Assembly Meeting but procrastination is not a good thing. Let s recruit early and getter done! 3 January 2019 Page 3 January 22, 2019 was the 46 th Anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court Roe vs Wade Decision, legalizing abortion in the United States. Saturday January 26 th is the 15 th West Coast Walk for Life. Please pray Prayer of St. Paul II For Life, not only Saturday but every day.

4 January 2019 Page 3 CALL-OUTS: Color Corps Report On December 1, 2018 the MLA Color Corps participated in the Annual Festival of Lights Parade in Auburn. The Color Corps was invited by the Auburn Council #6149 to participate with them as they promoted their "Keep Christ in Christmas" theme with a float depicting the manger scene with the Holy Family. Several members participated under the direction of our own Former Master SK Jim Letcher. On December 12, 2018, the MLA Color Corps participated with both parishes for the "Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe" by escorting the icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe during a procession from a point in the community to the respective churches for a Celebration of the Eucharist. We had only one member, SK Porfirio Perez, participate during the procession from the Regional Park in North Auburn to St. Teresa of Avila Church. Thank you for all you do for the Color Corps. Que Viva Cristo Rey, NORM CHAVEZ, Color Corps Commander, Mother Lode Assembly NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE As usual, the Color Corps will have practice prior to the meeting. Please bring your sword, chapeau and gloves and arrive at 7:00 PM. For those Sir Knights that wish to join and participate in the MLA Color Corps please see me about obtaining the regalia items, capes, chapeau, swords, etc. that the MLA has available. I have several pieces of regalia that have been donated by our late Brother Sir Knights and other Brother Sir Knights that can no longer participate.

5 January 2019 Page 4 CHALICE REPORT January 2019 If our sole purpose is to supply our names to a Mass Kit, this year has not started off well. No new names have been donated. You could donate someone else s name. A year or so ago, my brothers and I purchased a Mass Kit. We caused our parent s names to be engraved upon the patent in the kit and passed it on to Fr. Augustine. My father escaped this world many years ago but now, at age 98, Mom continues to do be healthy and living a life free of significant difficulties. She attributes her good fortune to the daily prayers said for her by Fr. Augustine or one of his priestly associates. I would not dispute her belief. Fr. Augustine assures me prayers are being said for her daily. Maybe there is someone for whom you would like to purchase a Mass Kit. If so, let me know and I will facilitate the effort.
