2 June 2018 FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S REPORT June 2018 Worthy Brother Sir Knights, Page 2 Sir Knights of the Mother Lode Assembly, I want to start this report by thanking you all for supporting me and the assembly for the last year. This was a challenging year for me and our assembly. I could not have gotten through it without the support and help of you, my brothers. The Knights of Columbus are often thought of as a strong arm of the local parish community and the diocese we serve. The tasks we perform and the support we provide are given freely by us. We receive more than we give. That is the secret of our order and the reason we keep growing as an order. Our uniform may change but as our Master stated this year, I do not confer Knighthood on a suit. The men of this great order stand on the shoulders of the brothers who served before us. We remember those brothers in our prayers and honor them with a Mass Kit. Our own color corps members stand guard over them at their send off. We never really lose them for they are just promoted to a higher order. As Sir Knights we are the only members allowed to wear the regalia of the Knights of Columbus. In order to keep the Mother Lode Assembly going we must have a Faithful Purser to watch our money and manage the financial records for our assembly. You may be asked to share your talents, please say yes. We also need a Faithful Captain for the next year, this is the second in command and as such will have to take over if the Faithful Navigator cannot make a meeting. These two positions are vital to our assembly. If you need to speak to someone please contact me or another officer. Two of our newest Sir Knights have stepped up and answered the call and if elected will serve as officers in their first year as Sir Knights. I know there are members out there who have the talents to serve as officers and for some reason have not stepped forward. If I can serve as your Faithful Navigator I know you can serve in any role needed. Our installation of new officers will take place on August 18 th at St. Joseph - Auburn. There will be a dinner afterwards welcoming new officers and all our new Sir Knights. You all are invited. Please attend. Our next meeting is in Auburn on June 19th at 7:30 P.M. We will elect assembly officers for Effective in July we will move our meeting to 7:00 P.M. This small change will hopefully entice more members to attend our meetings. As always if any brother needs a ride let us know and we will get someone to pick you up. This will be by last Faithful Navigators report to you all, so again thank you all for the support you have provided me as your Faithful Navigator. 4 June Color Corps Report May/June 2018 CALL-OUTS: Since I did not submit a report last month I will report for May and June in this report. On April 21 st the MLA Color Corps participated in the 4 th Degree Exemplification at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel, 2001 Point West Way, Sacramento from 9:00AM through the Exemplification Ceremonies and during the evening Mass at 4:30PM. There were six Sir Knights that participated during the exemplification: SK s Tom Epperson, Bruce Amundson, Jeff Jones, Pete Lopez, Ken Pomaranski and Norm Chavez. On April 22 nd, several members participated in the Mandatory District Master s meeting at the Double Tree Hotel. Members participating were: SK s Wayne Gallant, Bruce Amundson, Tom Epperson, FDM Jim Letcher, Hugh Paxton and Norm Chavez. On April 30 th the MLA Color Corps participated in the Confirmation Mass at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Atwood Road, Auburn on Monday, April 30 th at 6:00PM that was celebrated by Bishop Wegandt. There were seven Sir Knights that participated: SK s Wayne Gallant, Ken Pomaranski, Casey Haas, Henry Yates, Tom Epperson, Jeff Jones and Norm Chavez. On May 6 th, the MLA Color Corps participated in the Holy Ghost Festa Mass at St. Joseph Church at 280 Oak Tree Lane in Lincoln on May 6 th at 10:00AM and then participated in the Holy Ghost Festa Parade following the Mass starting at McBean Park, traveling through several blocks in the streets of Lincoln and returning back to McBean Park. There were five Sir Knights that participated: SK s Tom Epperson, Wayne Gallant, Henry Yates, FDM Jim Letcher and Norm Chavez. On May 28 th the Mother Lode Assembly participated in the Annual Memorial Day Ceremonies at four cemeteries in Auburn and another group, led by FDM, Jim Letcher participated in the Annual Memorial Day Ceremonies at four cemeteries and at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Forest Hill. The ceremonies in Auburn started at the New Auburn Cemetery at 9:00AM, then moved to the Old Auburn Cemetery at 10:00AM, where the Mother Lode Assembly placed a Memorial Wreath at the Veteran s Memorial Tomb, then we drove to the Newcastle Cemetery at 11:00AM and then the Maidu Indian Burial Grounds at 12:00Noon, where several veterans are buried. Five Sir Knights participated: SK s Pete Lopez, Bruce Amundson, Steve Jorgensen, Ken Pomaranski and Norm Chavez. The group that went to the four Forest Hill cemeteries started at 9:00AM at the Forest Hill Community Cemetery, two other cemeteries before ending at the St. Joseph Cemetery and finally at the Veterans Memorial Hall. A Memorial Wreath was placed at all four cemeteries and at the Veterans Memorial Hall by our Brother Sir Knights, SK Henry Yates, SK Tom Epperson, SK Jeff Jones and our FDM Jim Letcher, who was the Color Corps Commander this detail.

5 June Color Corps Report May/June 2018 (continued) On May 28 th, the Mother Lode Assembly Color Corps participated in Viewing, Rosary and Vigil Ceremonies for Father Frank Lawlor, at St. Rose Catholic Church, 5961 Franklin Blvd. Sacramento, from 3:00PM to 8:00PM. Only the CCC, Norm Chavez was able to attend. On May 29 th, the Mother Lode Assembly Color Corps participated in the Funeral Mass for Father Frank Lawlor at St. Robert Catholic Church, 2243 Irvin Way, Sacramento, at 11:00AM. SK s Bruce Amundson and Norm Chavez participated. On May 29 th, the Mother Lode Assembly Color Corps participated in the Burial for Father Frank Lawlor at St. Mary s Cemetery, st Avenue, Sacramento at 2:00PM. SK s Bruce Amundson and Norm Chavez participated. On May 31 st, the Mother Lode Assembly Color Corps participated at the Triduum of Prayers for Our Lady of Fatima at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 208 Oak Tree Lane, Lincoln at 6:00PM, which included the Color Corps escorting the statue of Our Lady of Fatima during the rosary and procession around the church. Members participating were: SK s Wayne Gallant, Bruce Amundson, Steve Jorgenson and Norm Chavez. On June 2 nd, the Mother Lode Assembly Color Corps participated in the Ordination of three Priests, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, th Street, Sacramento at 9:00AM, celebrated by Bishop Jaime Soto. Two members of the MLA Color Corps participated. The SK s participating were Bruce Amundson and Norm Chavez. Thank you for all you do for the Color Corps. Please bring your sword, chapeau and gloves and arrive at 6:30PM. For those Sir Knights that wish to join and participate in the MLA Color Corps please see me about obtaining the regalia items, capes, chapeau, swords, etc. that the MLA has available. I have several pieces of regalia that have been donated by our late Brother Sir Knights and other Brother Sir Knights that can no longer participate. And thank you for all you do for the Color Corps. 6 June CHALICE REPORT June 2018 Another month passed without any of our brothers leaving us. We did lose SK Ricco Ches but not because he went to Heaven but because he returned to where more of his heart resides. His energy and creativity will be missed. SK Casey Haas passed away on the morning of June 18 th. We pray his journey ended without discomfort. Certainly, we plan to participate in his funeral and inscribe his name on our next Mass Kit.
