We had a great time, but both of us are happy to be home. I would also like to remind all Sir Knights that we are at that time of the year when we have to set up a slate of candidates for the next fraternal year. I ask each of you to think of how you can best serve your fellow Sir Knights, your Parish Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii Arizona Memorial in Foreground and the Community in which we live, and how you can best serve the 4th Degree. I ask each of you to think about remaining in the position you now occupy, deciding to run for another position or running as a first time candidate. John J Lawley Assembly, #973 SPECIAL OLYMPICS Special Olympics of Lebanon County, held its 8th Annual Dinner and Auction Benefit on Saturday March 10th, The Knights of Columbus were represented by District Deputy Jim Oberst and his wife Marie, Grand Knight Brian McFeaters of Council 9875 and his wife Kathy and your Faithful Navigator, and his wife Bobbi, daughter Karen and a friend of the family. Although Faithful Navigator Paul bid several times, he was outbid each time by one of two brothers. After the Auction, he approached them to see if they wanted to become Knights. Anyone that aggressive we can use. Oh! Just for your information our table was sandwiched between two Masonic Lodge tables. It was amazing how many said they missed the past joint dinners with us. 2 Special Olympics Continued In Memoriam: Brother Knight Richard Karcher passed away on January 29, 2018 at the age of 86. Richard was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served in numerous positions. Prior to coming to Council 9875, Richard served as Treasurer of Bishop Shanahan Council in Harrisburg and as Warden for District 49. His dedication to the order was so strong, that he received outstanding service awards, especially for his work in recruitment. Richard was also an Army veteran and served our country in the Korean War. Please keep him and his family in your prayers Opportunities we have to help out with the Special Olympics activities. Besides the Auction, we participate in the Swimming meet which is scheduled for March 24th at the LVC pool and the Bunny Run fundraiser on March 31st at Annville Cleona HS. We are expecting that the Bocce tournaments will resume soon. The Lebanon County Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round training and competition in Olympic type Jack Yanni sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and closely related developmental disabilities providing them physical fitness, joy and a sense of community. It is heartwarming to assist them in their activities and amazing the feeling of warmth you take from the experience. Since we have these two activities occurring within the short term, please consider coming out and helping with either one. Swim meet at 8:30 AM to about 1:30 PM and the Bunny run at Annville Cleona 7:30 AM. Help out or Run in the race. Either way it helps raise funds Colors presented before Swim for Special Olympics. Meet at LVC Garden of Hope at St. Paul s Church Membership Drive Lets never stop praying for an end to abortion. Assembly 973 cares! A quick message to all our SKs who are officers in their councils: Please encourage your 3rd degree Knights to join the Patriotic Degree. Make sure they understand that joining does not require purchasing Regalia. April Meeting. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 17th at Saint Paul's Church in Annville. 3 Knights Serve Disabled Veterans Each Sunday Each Sunday morning, a team of Knights from the 7 Councils associated with Assembly 973 travel to the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Lebanon, PA to transport disabled veterans from their hospital rooms to the 10:30 am Holy Mass and back again. A member of the Knights also serves as Lector during Mass. It is truly a privilege to serve our disabled veterans each Sunday who sacrificed a lot for our country and for our freedom! Thank you for your time and sacrifice. 5 Right to Life Rally About 60 people attended the Right to Life demo at 8th and Cumberland St in downtown Lebanon. Many cars and trucks honked for Life. Deacon Wentzel led prayer and Benediction after an hour on the streets. The St. Mary s Church ladies made soup and had beverages prepared for a light luncheon afterwards. The KofC brought sandwiches and cookies. It was a wonderful day to serve God and pray for the unborn. Page 5

7 The Good Doctor Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good! Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you? Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach. Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around! Q: Is swimming good for your figure? A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle? A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape! Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. And remember: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, FINAL WORD ON DIET For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies. 1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. CONCLUSION Eat and drink what you like.
