(James Joyce) The Knightly News Knights of Columbus St. Joseph s Parish Council 9202 Division II, District 4 August 2011 Grand Knight s Report Brother Knights, LUAU 2011 This year s Luau was a huge, sold out event thanks to Chairman Chuck Robertson and his team. The photos (courtesy of Mike Delaney) tell it all. Congratulations on another amazing Luau. There were many positive comments on what a great event! Thank you to all that helped and special thanks to Herb Pickell and David Kauhaahaa for a delicious meal. One more thanks to Chuck Robertson who headed the event. Chuck will be moving over to the Treasure position starting in August. We have published this information in the minutes and we will be looking for a new leader to head up the Luau for next year. Bartenders Ralph Cozad, Kevin Blake, Joe Accurso, Patrick Gonzales, Jack Kavanagh, Tom Beasley. Chefs David Kauhaahaa, Herb Pickell, Lloyd Prather On a serious note we have had two brother knights pass away last month. Terry Waite and Bert Davis will be missed. We have a great many members who helped at the funeral service. Remembering our fallen brothers is a vital role in the Knights and I am pleased to report that this fall we will remember our fallen brothers with a special Mass. This will take place at our Knights Mass in November. We should never forget our widows and widowers and that they are still part of our organization and should be invited to all functions. We are Knights and care about our extended families. With unemployment numbers rising, (From the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in the United States is currently 9.2%), it s very likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends is facing financial uncertainty now. With this uncertainty, there is a real possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change employers. Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that a personally owned life insurance policy is not necessary. Only having through work insurance doesn t work. This way of thinking should be a thing of the past for many reasons. Most forms of group life insurance are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped, and this cap may be dangerously low for your family s actual needs. In fact, without a detailed needs analysis, any employer-provided coverage may be completely unrelated to needs at death. In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. With the possibility of these changes on the horizon, you could one day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it has and will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. Only 25 Brother Barnabas awards are given out worldwide. Great job Richard Scozzari and the boys! This month we have a variety of important events to help with. In His Wakes will be happening out at our place in Lincoln where we will have many youth learning to walk closer with Christ. Later in the month we will have the wheelchair weekend and at the end of the month all can help by giving blood. As always please take a look at our website as new pictures and information go up weekly.
