3 Stewardship/Ministry Caring For Our Neighbors Nokomis News By Betty Thorp Nokomis Rep. The CART for this month is designated for the New Life Center. They can use toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, shampoo, combs and deodorant. Another organization that needs our support is Luther Hall. They care and counsel year old boys and girls. They can use single blankets, single quilts, afghans, personal care items, puzzles, and craft items. Look for the marked box by the Church office. There will be another marked box marked for school supplies for United Way Community Needs. They have specified items listed in most of the stores. Another box competing for attention is the one for Bath Size Bars of Soap We have been given purpose. We have what others need. Let s Share! By Malvina Moe Stewardship Rep. Jeremy McIntyre was born with a rare condition called Apert Syndrome that affects skull and hand formation. Because of this he has undergone many surgeries and faced many challenges over the years. He will be sharing his story on Sunday, July 28, during the worship service. There should be a lot of geraniums blooming in the Fargo area as the Friends of Nokomis sold 2,977 plants. Thank you to everyone who ordered here at Pont (164 plants). And thank you to Pastor Doug for picking up the plants from the greenhouse and Doreen Smith who arranged them by orders. I am so glad now that the Friends of Nokomis will have funds to give to classrooms, kitchens and unfunded emergencies. Thank you to all! ELCA Mission Giving As the Ministry Director, I would like to take a moment to remind you of the good that our Mission giving does: Worldwide over 650,000 people die annually from malaria. That is a child every 60 seconds. 90% live in Africa. A child in Africa has between 1.6 and 5.4 episodes of malaria every year. It accounts for up to 60% of clinic visits and nearly 50% of hospital stays in these regions. Currently there is an ELCA campaign to raise $15 million to provide medicine, mosquito netting and education for health care providers and church volunteers to diagnose and treat malaria. So far we have raised over 50% of this goal. Your support monthly through the specially designated mission envelopes (the ones with the blue border in your envelope pack), helps to support this ministry in Africa. All money received in the mission envelopes is forwarded or distributed to mission organizations. Thank you for all you have given and for your continued giving so we can continue giving, so we can show our faith makes a difference in the world. By Scott Spanjer Mission Director 3
