1 White Oak Baptist Church October 2017 Newsletter White Oak Baptist Church٠13943 Buffalo Road ٠Archer Lodge, NC ٠ ٠

2 Welcome home! These were the words I heard as I stepped out of my truck and stood for the first time in the parking lot as Lead Pastor of White Oak Baptist Church. Be assured, there was an incredible amount of joy (mixed with a little nervousness) in that moment. However, Jennifer and I really do feel welcomed and at home in Archer Lodge thanks to your amazing hospitality. We are incredibly excited to be here and become part of what can be accomplished in our community through the power of God. I believe the Lord has uniquely orchestrated our calling to White Oak and that He has brought us together at just the right time. I could expound upon that statement in so many ways, but I look forward to sharing more with you personally. So you know, I have felt led to begin a preaching series from the letter Paul wrote to the church at Philippi. The letter to the Philippians is full of words of encouragement to a church that remained faithful to the Lord through some difficult times. It is also a letter of gratitude from Paul to the church recognizing their continued support despite the struggles they had faced. I pray that this powerful letter will also encourage you as we work through it together. I look forward to meeting and getting to know many of you more significantly. I have a confident hope that God will continue to do a good work through White Oak as we remain faithful to Him. Blessings your pastor Scott Bolton Deacon Council Kenny Williams presenting Dr. Baxter Prevatte with a certificate of appreciation for his service as our Interim Pastor. 3 Caregivers Ministry Team by Mike & Connie Mulhollem and Dan & Ann Wall The Caregivers Ministry Team celebrated the beginning of the new church year with thirty-two members/guests in attendance. Fifty-three lunches were taken to our shut-ins, which also gave our teams an opportunity to visit with each. Jayne Eannarino and Loretta Richardson coordinated the delicious meal which consisted of grilled pork chops, green beans, baked apples, sweet potatoes, a dinner roll and a dessert. John Myklebust held a Moment of Silence and Prayer in remembrance of Linda Ward, the 16th anniversary of 9/11 and the victims of recent hurricanes. Judy Myklebust led our devotion with Numbers 22 and Philippians 2:5-8 as her Biblical references. She challenged our group to break the cycle in the "Pecking Order" of anger, which starts with an aggravation early in the day and passes to the people with whom you come in contact throughout the day. Judy noted, "Do not give people the power over you to make you mad. Seek to be Christ-like as we are made in His image." We are very appreciative of the gifts our team has received this month. Margaret Stevens gave us fresh tomatoes to include with the lunches going out. Jimmy and Janice Kennedy donated the flowers they had in the church on Sunday in memory of Jimmy's mother, Pat, and his aunt, Winnie Carroll. The flowers were used to make beautiful bud vases to be given to our shut-ins. Our team also sponsored goody bags for our shut-ins and facility residents. Our next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 11:00 am at the Archer Lodge Community Center. We invite you to come join us. Women On Mission The Women on Mission have kicked off the new church year. We began by making plans for future events including a Wednesday supper and a Sunday dedicated to focusing on the global missions reach of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. We also planned for our future meeting programs. Following our planning session, Sharon Freeman shared the photos she took while in Guatemala at the Agua Viva children's home. Although we have seen pictures of this place before, we always enjoy seeing photos of the work there that brings glory to God while improving the lives of Guatemalan children. We are excited for our new church year and look forward to what it will have in store for us. Monthly Giving DATE AMOUNT GIVEN September 3 $3,621 September 10 $2,775 September 17 $2,526 September 24 $6,365 TOTAL $15,287 Our budget needs were $15,424 ***************************** Bereavement Contacts Benny Richardson (919) ***************************** Caregivers Contacts Mike & Connie Mulhollem Dan & Ann Wall ****************************

4 The Children s Committee hosted a grandparents luncheon on Sunday, September 17th in the fellowship hall after church. We had a great turn-out. The food was catered by City Barbeque and was delicious. We gave away door prizes and enjoyed the fellowship of everyone who attended. We appreciate everyone who came out. Lucas and Brooklyn Petty enjoying lunch with their grandparents. Children s Committee: Amy Dean, Sharon Kristoff, Gracie Lassiter & Carmella Williams The Children s Committee will be assisting the Archer Lodge Community Center with the annual pumpkin carving event on October 29 th at the Community Center. Bring your pumpkin to carve and soup, sandwiches or a dessert to share. The children s committee will provide mini pumpkins and set up a table for the smaller children to paint a pumpkin. The event starts at 5:00pm. On Halloween, we will be helping the ALFD again with trunk-or-treat. This event starts at 6:00pm until 9:00pm. There will be decorated trunks for the kids to trick-or-treat, hotdogs, drinks, and a haunted house. We welcome anyone who wants to provide a trunk and hand out candy. We would also appreciate candy donations. There will be a collection box in the copy room for candy. Our congregation rejoiced with Hannah Weaver and her family in celebration of her baptism on September 24th. The RAs and GAs will be sharing the gospel and collecting shoebox gifts for boys and girls around the world. All shoeboxes are due by Sunday, November 12, There are a few changes this year: the shipping donation is $9.00 instead of $7.00 and this year toothpaste and candy are not allowed in the boxes. Please visit for more information. Stay tuned for details about our fun packing party... Let's join together to collect more boxes than ever before!
