Repeated Wednesdays at 2:00 pm. OFFICE HOURS 309 4th Street North Fargo, ND From Pastor Doug Youth Coordinator Pontoppidan has a new Staff Member! At the April TriAnnual Meeting the congregation approved a part-time position for a Youth Coordinator. The Youth Coordinator will organize our youth activities and fundraisers and Confirmation program. The Youth Coordinator will be in contact with youth and families. The Youth Coordinator will also create new programming and maintain our current good programming. Wow! This will be great! This will keep our Youth Program moving forward, and will provide continuing opportunities and clear communications. We had three people apply for the position. There was much talent available for this position, and it was not an easy choice. The position of Youth Coordinator was extended to, and accepted by, Lisa Vig. Lisa begins her duties August 1. She will be working closely with me, and with our Sunday School Coordinator, Sarah Trogstad. The Youth Team will also continue to work with Youth Ministry. Welcome aboard, Lisa! If you have any thoughts or questions or insights about Youth Ministry at Pontoppidan feel free to communicate with Lisa. We thank Kim Stromberg, who for the past many years has guided our Youth Ministry, and has laid a sure foundation for the current program. Rally Sunday September 8 Thank you, Kim! Rally Sunday is September 8. The Chili Feed will continue! If you would like to provide a chili please contact Ken Lepper. If you are willing to serve either in Sunday School or Confirmation please contact Sarah Trogstad or Pastor Doug. If you like to sing in the Pont Choir or provide Special Music, contact Del Jordahl. We love volunteers! ELCA Anniversary September 15 The ELCA was formed 25 years ago from three Lutheran church bodies. On September 8 we will recognize that by reminding ourselves that the ELCA theme is God s Work Our Hands. We will have opportunities to use our hands on that day to serve our community and the larger world. More information will come in the September Newsletter. Have a great summer day! 3 Caring For Our Neighbors By Malvina Moe Stewardship Rep We in America hear and see all the choices we can buy to provide our children with adequate school supplies. Education is important for any community where poverty or disaster has limited the options for young people to reach their potential. LWR School Kits contain essential supplies to help children with their learning despite the hardships they face. The following items are needed in each school kit: four (4) 70 sheet spiral notebooks, one (1) 30 centimeter ruler or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other, one (1) pencil sharpener, one (1) blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades), five (5) ballpoint pens (no gel ink), one (1) box of 16 or 24 crayons. We will assemble these items before shipping time. Items may be placed in Blue Bins by the church office. We have 56 sturdy drawstring backpack style cloth bags with shoulder straps waiting to be filled. The Cart is designated for Churches United for the Homeless (paper products, used or new washcloths, used hand towels, cleaning supplies, & canned goods). We continue to collect bath size bars of soap for LWR. Father, teach me to count my blessings and share with those who have so much less than I. Amen. Library Corner By Sandy Cegla Church Librarian Happy Summertime! Come to the Pontoppidan Library and look for a great book to read while sitting out on the lawn chair or waiting for the fish to bite! We are in the era of ipads, Nooks and Kindles. Give me a book any old day!! I love to actually hold the book in my hand and melt into it s ADVENTURE! I have gone through the boxes of Alice Mae s book-we appreciate them. We already had quite a few of them so I replaced the older copy on the shelf with Alice Mae s books, they are in excellent condition. As you come into the Library you will notice on the right by the bulletin board and in the front of the desk, beautiful display cases. All but one of these was handcrafted by a member of the congregation. The new books and newly donated books are on these shelves. Please feel free to browse. I hope to get back to the Library soon and do some further organizing of the books on the shelves, divide them into categories, etc. Come and take a look at the progress from time to time. I have put some books on the book shelf outside of the library for you to help yourself to and keep. These are multiple copies, unfortunately we do not have the space for multiple copies. The following books were just donated: The Dash, and a series of books by the Minnesota Author, Candace Simar: Pomme De Terre, Abercrombie Trail and Birdie. Thank you for the memorials and books in honor of someone. These help keep the Library going! Pick up a book today and start and adventure! 3

4 Youth News August Treat Schedule Each family is asked to provide 40 treats to share (80 total) and the coffee will be brewing when you arrive. Please arrive by 8:40 am as we serve summer treats from 9:15 am until 9:50 am with Worship at 10:00 am. Met many wonderful families, worked side by side with each of you and have been able to help our youth develop and grow in their Faith, as well as my own!! 8 AED [Automated External Defibrillator] Pontoppidan has an AED, located in the main hallway equal distant from the Living Room and Fellowship Hall and the Sanctuary. Thank you to the Youth Group for making this happen. Five people were trained to use the AED. But in conversations over the past few weeks we have discovered that we have many members who have been trained in CPR and in using an AED at their places of employment. It is comforting to know that if the AED must be used in the future there are a good number of people who are trained. It is also true that a person can use the AED even if not trained. If you find yourself in that situation take the AED out and open it up and an electronic voice will walk you through the steps of CPR and using the AED. FA [Families Anonymous] Families Anonymous is a self-help 12-step meeting for families whose lives have been affected by a family member with a drug and/or alcohol problem and related emotional issues. There is a meeting in the F-M area that meets on Monday evenings at 8:00 pm at Faith United Methodist Church [East door], th Ave N., Fargo.
