2 From Pastor Doug Barnabas Sunday October 2 Barnabas was a follower of Jesus. The story of Barnabas is told in Acts. He was known for his faithfulness and his commitment and his generosity. He sold a field and brought the proceeds to the apostles, in order to further the ministry of the early church. Every October we have a Sunday to provide the opportunity to give with the same generosity as Barnabas. We encourage one another to give an extra gift, above and beyond our regular offering. We are encouraged to give on Barnabas Sunday twice our regular offering, or four times our regular offering, or even more! It is exciting to see how this Sunday helps us to fulfill our commitments as a church to Proclaim the Gospel, Live in Christ, and Care for our Neighbors. Fellowship Hall Carpet Campaign In the main hallway of Pontoppidan is a bulletin board with lots of envelopes. The envelopes have dollar amounts on them, ranging somewhere between $1 and $200. Members are invited to take the envelopes off of the bulletin board in any dollar amount, and return them in the offering plates. This is a fun fundraiser for carpet for Fellowship Hall. The envelopes will be up through Sunday, October 30. Feel free to take one each Sunday in October! We hope to raise the money to install the new carpet before the end of this year. Thank you for helping with the Fellowship Hall Carpet Campaign! Pumpkin Patch October 16 The Fellowship Board has organized a day to go the Pumpkin Patch at Dakota Carriage Company Farm [ th Ave. N, Fargo]. It begins at 1pm. There are hayrides, a corn maze, petting zoo, camp fire, and other attractions. Cost is $7/person. We will have a reserved location for a campfire and treats. Come and meet your church friends at the reserved site whenever you need a break or a s-more and hot chocolate. Sunday, October 16 at the Dakota Carriage Company. Random fact for those who have a birthday this month: Autumn babies, born between September and November, are more likely to live to 100 than those who were born in other times of the year! 1 Happy October Birthdays! 3 Caring For Our Neighbors Jackie Jabens Stewardship Rep During the month of October, we are collecting warm socks, mittens, gloves, scarves and caps/hats for the New Life Center. If you wish to make a donation, please place these items in the grocery cart. October is Lutheran World Relief shipping month. Here at Pontoppidan, WELCA will be packing quilts, school kits and bath size bars of soap for delivery to the shipper on October 17. This is the beginning of a months long journey for these items that will eventually be placed in the hands of someone in desperate need, due to natural disaster or violence, expressing a message of love and caring. Reminder: ELCA Thankofferings will be collected in November. When you give to Thankofferings, your dollars support Women of the ELCA ministries that reach thousands of communities both locally and globally. More on Thankofferings next month! If you would like to donate bath size bars of soap for Lutheran World Relief, please put them in the blue bin near the church office door. Gracious God, we pray for our brothers and sisters in need, and we ask for ever-increasing awareness of ways to serve them. October 4 at 7:00 p.m. A Fall Faith-Filler with Margaret Feinberg, Fight Back with Joy at Hope Lutheran-South Campus in Fargo. October 7 & 8 Join us for a day at the Pumpkin Patch! We will be meeting at Dakota Carriage Company Farm, th Ave N., Fargo on Sunday, October 16 at 1:00 p.m. Enjoy hayrides, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and a campfire, among many other attractions.
