This month, the Food Pantry would like more canned mandarin oranges, pineapple, peaches, and mixed fruit, as well as peanut butter. This is a very simple way that we as a congregation can make a very big impact on the lives of several families in the community as we reach out in love and serve in Christ s name. The Deacons thank you for your help with this project. Pastor Vacation April 1st to 7th Pastor Homan will be on vacation from April 1st to April 7th. Part of the time will be spent in Dubuque, IA on continuing ed. Pastor Tom Krieger will be available for pastoral emergencies. Cookies for College Sunday, April 14th We will send our next Cookies for College mailing on Sunday, April 14th. We are in need of cookies or individually packed snacks to send to our college kids.

4 The carry-out crew in action. Pork Loin Dinner Thank you! Thank you for all of the generous help from such a giving congregation. We could not have had such a successful dinner without your help! Thanks to your help, we served a total of 377 people! We served 178 people in the dining room, and sent 199 carry-outs home. A special thanks to the Presbyterian Men who worked so hard during the day and washed dishes all night, and to all the kids who worked the carry-out station. The money raised will fund PW s mission projects throughout the year. The kitchen crew in action. Celebrate the Gifts of Women Sunday Sunday, April 7th The Celebrate the Gifts of Women Praise Service will be on Sunday, April 7th. Anne Peterson will be providing the message in worship that day. Anne is a poet, speaker and author of 42 published Bible Studies. She will be speaking about using our gifts. The ladies of the church will also be sharing their gifts and leading worship. KITCHEN DUTY FOR APRIL Connie Rich PW Friends in Fellowship Outing Thursday, May 9th 7:00 p.m. at Peoria Civic Center Theater PW would like to invite you out for an evening of fun and laughter. A group of ladies will be attending the The Mother of All Comedy Tour with Anita Renfroe and Henry Cho at Peoria Civic Center Theater on Thursday, May 9th, 2013 at 7:00 PM. 5 The ISU Faculty String Quartet in concert Romantic Impressions Saturday, April 20th at 7:00 pm Showcasing performances by Illinois State University Faculty and Graduate Candidates Concert is free, but tickets are required. Please contact the church office to reserve tickets. Please plan to join us for a Meet and Greet the Artists reception in the Friendship Room immediately following the performance.

6 Christian Education News Vacation Bible School 2013 June 24th to June 28th 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. At First Presbyterian Church Believe it or not, planning for VBS is already underway! Vacation Bible School will be held with Trinity Lutheran again this year. This year it will be at First Pres from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided daily to the families that participate. This year s theme is God s Backyard Bible Camp. The Lutherans will join us for a special VBS worship service on June 30th here at First Pres. They will also join us for our 5th Sunday potluck after worship that day. VBS Meeting Sunday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. There will be a VBS meeting on Sunday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. in the Friendship Room. Anyone who wishes to help with Vacation Bible School this year is encouraged to attend. Helpers Needed! Christian Education is in need of helpers for Sunday School. In the last month, the number of students in our Sunday School has doubled! That is great news! But it also means we are in need of more help. Being a Sunday School helper is a fun (and Helpers extremely easy) job! Helpers are Needed! not required to teach; they simply help the teacher by getting supplies, making copies, or supervising the kids while the teacher steps out for a moment. And best of all, you don t have to commit to helping the whole year. We will work with your schedule for whenever you are available. If you are interested, please see Robin Buchenau. Our Small Groups...Join Us! Christian Breakfast A study of the One Year Bible meets on Sunday mornings at 8:00 a.m. in the Library. Doughnuts and coffee are provided. Sunday Morning Adult Class The Adult Sunday School class meets on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the Library. Wednesday Bible Study This group meets every Wednesday morning in the church fellowship hall. They are studying the book Twelve Ordinary Men. John 3:16 This group of parents meets once a month following worship for food and fellowship. Free childcare is provided. The next meeting of John 3:16 will be announced in the bulletin soon. Koinonia κοινωνία A faith, food, and fellowship class aimed at somethings meets on the 2nd Friday of the month. New members will be received on Easter Sunday. Special treats will be served in the Narthex after church. Detailed discussion took place regarding the April 20 concert, "Romantic Impressions," with the ISU Faculty String Quartet. Christian Education (Did not meet) Deacons Easter lilies will be displayed on Easter Sunday. Extra Easter lilies will be given to Fairview Haven. Phyllis Tipton will be in charge of Meals on Wheels. Finance The committee discussed upcoming projects and how to fund them. Ministry and Administration The committee talked about feedback on recent worship services. Mission and Stewardship The next Cookies for College will be April 14th. From Phyllis Tipton thank you! Thank you for the cards and visits during my recent surgery. Fellowship Time Treats Volunteers are needed to provide goodies for Fellowship Time. Each person should provide 3 dozen cookies or bars which you can make homemade or purchase. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex if you are able to help.
