2 PAGE 2 Church Council Notes November, 2014 Fund Balances: General: Building: Cornerstone: Board of Trustees Report: Bills for the month of November were reviewed. Payment to SWMN Synod in the amount of $250 was placed on hold until funds are available, bills total $10,22.9. Approved payments to Minneota Building Materials for keylock for $44.21; from Petty Cash for kitchen supplies, $144.94, plus $50 cake and $117 clock for Pastor Tom s retirement. Doors rejected initial doors because the color was not as ordered. A refinish discount will be requested due delay. Parsonage a walk-through of the parsonage was done and options will be prepared on a priority needed basis. Farmland is rented to Tony Buysse for 2015 at a contracted price of $215 per acre. Board of Deacons Report Christmas planning December 21st is the Sunday school Christmas program. Work groups add in Confirmation kids to existing lists, get new leaders, have a meeting with chairpersons. Board of Education Winds of the Prairie will cover confirmation until an interim is in place. GLOW good attendance so far. A wide range of kids and showing up regularly. Food has been well received. YOH will do a mission trip to Daytona Beach, Florida in mid-july. Met with parents/students about the trip. Discussed fundraisers and specifics. Other Business Cut off for end of year offerings will be Tuesday, December 0th. There will be a congregational meeting on December 21st after the morning Christmas Program Service. Purpose of the meeting is for final vote to change the annual meeting to the 4th Sunday in January following worship. 3 PAGE The HLCW will hold their December meeting on December 11th at noon with a potluck dinner to begin the festivities. Each member is asked to bring a dish to pass plus a sample of Christmas goodies to share. Plates of goodies will then be assembled to share with our shut-ins and home bound members. A short program will be shared and a business meeting will be held addressing many upcoming events in the year. All are welcome to the HLCW Christmas party. The entire congregation thanks Lois Van DePutte for her diligent work with the flowers and shrubs outside the church all summer and fall. Your hard work helped to beautify our church! Thank you! Altar Guild The Altar Guild met on November 21st after the Sunday church service. Several issues were discussed as follows: placement of a key to the chapel has been made for use by the altar guild, eternal candle will be left burning at all times with the wick low to save oil, Christmas decorations will be put up beginning on November 0, officers for the coming year will stay the same with Marlys Skaar, President and Barbara Fodness, Secretary. A sign up sheet for next year was passed around and new schedule will be ready soon. The meeting was dismissed with the Lord s Prayer. Barbara Fodness, Secretary LEFSE, BELGIAN COOKIE and DECORATED CHRISTMAS COOKIE ORDERS Youth Of Hope will be taking Lefse, Belgian Cookie, and Decorated Christmas Cookie orders until December 12 th. These items can be ordered anytime by calling Terri Orders will be available Sunday, December 14 th. Please join us for a Baked Potato Bar supper Sunday, December 14th from 5-6:0pm and pick up your Christmas goodies! 4 PAGE 4 Working Together Hope Lutheran is in a period of change as we begin the process of calling a new pastor to our congregation. It is time to work even harder together, talking about our needs, and keeping present programs running smoothly. Please keep our secretary, Chris Pesch, informed of changes in schedules so these can be added to the newsletters. It is exciting to see all the youth involved in the GLOW program. Have you donated time to help with the meal? Please call Barb Knutson to donate your time and see for yourself how well this program is working. The ladies circle meetings, HLCW meetings, Jubilation, Praise Band, and Confirmation continue in their programs and we praise God for their faithfulness. Your Church Council is working hard to make sure everything our congregation needs is being taken care of during this time of transition. We will need a call committee that takes all our concerns into consideration as we go about the call process. And we certainly need God s help and guidance during this time. Let us all continue to be faithful members, sharing our money to keep our budget sound, and striving to keep our congregation vibrant as we search for a new pastor Gayle Van Vooren, Deacon on Council The HLCW met on November 16 in the lounge after the church service. The meeting was conducted by acting President Sandy Tolk. The meatball dinner was reviewed and it went well. Sandy thanked all those who helped. The income for the dinner/bake sale/silent auction was good and it was suggested that it be used to replace the carpeting in the lounge. This will be discussed further. The fall decorations provided by Paula Dovre were appreciated. The HLCW Christmas Potluck dinner will be held on December 11 at 12:00. All members are welcome. Helen Rokeh and Sandy Josephson are working on favors for the Ascension Brunch. They showed an example of the pin they are making. Donated items for Hospice are being collected and will be delivered before Christmas. The items are listed in the HLCW booklet. There is a collection box in the Chapel. There will be 10 seniors receiving quilts this year. The tops are made and assembling and tying will be done on a work day after Christmas. A date has not been set yet. The meeting was adjourned.
