1 Pont s Ponderings Pontoppidan Lutheran Church Proclaiming the Gospel! Living in Christ! Caring for our Neighbors! His faithful love endures forever.

2 From Pastor Doug Stewardship means to see to the daily affairs of the master of the house. For us Christians: The Master of the House is the Lord. [ The earth is the Lord s Psalm 24:1] The daily affairs of the Master s house are all of those things we encounter. Think of all the things we have stewardship over. A place to live, a vehicle to drive, a garden to tend, a family to care for, a budget to manage, our own health. We are truly stewards of many remarkable things. Stewardship also means we are willing to be held accountable. The church body does not have one accountant. We are all held accountable for the daily affairs of the Master s house. We are all accountants of God s good gifts; accountable for the gifts which pass through our hands daily. God gives these gifts so that we might have a full and rich life. Most of what we receive is used for our own daily needs. Jesus said, Your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! [Matthew 6:8] Again Jesus said about our daily needs: If God so wonderfully cares for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. [Matthew 6:30] Stewardship also means to show hospitality. God makes it clear that not everything that comes into our hands is to remain in our hands. That attitude leads to a person like the rich young ruler, who walked away from Jesus. Showing hospitality keeps us close to our Lord, and close to our neighbors; especially to those in need. So every November we remind ourselves about Stewardship, so that we can continue to care for the daily affairs of our Master by committing to sharing some of our time and talent and treasure. In this Newsletter you will find a pledge card. There are two options for these pledge cards. Option 1: After prayerful consideration return the card to the church by mail or in the offering plate. This helps our Parish Planning Council to prepare a budget for We thank all who return their pledge cards in this way. It is very helpful. Option 2: After prayerful consideration, fill out the card and keep it in your home. In this way you will have deeply considered your commitment to the ministry of Pontoppidan for God bless you as you continue to see to the daily affairs of your Master s house. 2

3 Caring For Our Neighbors Jackie Jabens Stewardship Rep Reminders to be thankful and to share our blessings and abundance are all around us during the month of November. It is right, then, that we remember the many, many people the New Life Center serves by helping to provide them with warm clothing. Items may be new or used as long as they are clean and in good condition. Please place your donations in the CART. We will also be collecting items for the YWCA Unique Boutique - gifts of all kinds (new only, please), Christmas wrappings, bows, etc. There will be a box by the church office. On October 20 th, Steve Albertson, Tom Jabens, Grant Magnuson, Del Sanders and Don Sell, with Doreen Smith s help, loaded up and delivered boxes packed with 77 quilts, 59 school kits, 5 health kits and 87 pounds of soap to be shipped to Lutheran World Relief and then overseas. On behalf of LWR and the many other agencies we support, thank you all, and thank you to so many of you in our Pontoppidan community, who respond again and again to the needs of our sisters and brothers in Christ. Dear Lord, thank you for this new day; may I live it with faith and joy in my heart. Give me the awareness and the courage to extend my hand to those who are hurting and in need. Amen. Thank you to the following people who volunteered their time this last summer for mowing and landscaping: Ruth Stensland, Dale Myrvik, Mark Samuels, Matt & Jennifer Braun, Brandon Blanchard, Greg Korsgaden, Paul Grimes, Greg Fagerwick and Marissa Oelke.
