Some members of FPCW s choir will be participating One Great Hour of Sharing collection Habitat for Humanity Walk for Housing FPCW s team of walker are Lois Dunikowski, Nancy Popoloski and Peggy Wright. Anyone is welcome to join them. Please sponsor their team for this fundraiser. Your donation can be given to any member of the team. this is an important effort in funding housing for low-income families. Your support is appreciated!

3 Spring has finally arrived! As the snow melts and the trees and flowers begin to bud, let us say Thanks be to God for the abundant natural beauty that we are so blessed with here in the Hudson Valley. Join us in worship as we journey through lent and arrive at that glorious Easter morning when we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Guests preachers in our pulpit in April are: April 2 - Dr. David Jacobsen April 9, Palm Sunday - Dr. David Jacobsen April 13, Maundy Thursday - Rev. Glenn Henricksen April 16, Easter Sunday - Rev. Glenn Henricksen April 23 - Dr. David Jacobsen April 30 - Dr. David Jacobsen We will celebrate the Lord s Supper on Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday. Our Maundy Thursday service will be preceded by a soup and bread supper at 6:15 PM in Hazekamp Hall. Be sure to sign up on the bulletin board in the hallway. There will also be a sign-up sheet for the Maundy Thursday service as we will begin at 7:30 PM in the sanctuary and move to the Upper Room to experience a symbolic seder meal and receive communion. During Holy Week there will be a Good Friday service at 12:00 PM followed by a Prayer Vigil until 6:00 PM. The sanctuary will be open for prayer and meditation. There will be a box set up in the Denniston Room beginning March 26 where prayer r2quests can be submitted and a sign-up sheet with 30-minute prayer slots. 6 BBQ Picnic & Ice Cream Social The deadline for the monthly newsletter is the 20th of each month. Please submit the news you want to share, to Cynthia on or before the 20th of each month at It is almost that time of year and the weather is beginning to warm up for our 2nd Annual BBQ Picnic and Ice Cream Social. Tentative date is June 10, Volunteers are needed to organize this event. If you are feeling called to lead this fun event, we will show you all there is to know and do. Remember - it is all about being organized and delegating. See any deacon for more information. Board of Deacons Food Pantry The food pantry welcomes all donations. Needed for April is canned tuna, canned chicken, jelly and peanut butter. Please add at least one of these items to your shopping list. Donations can be placed in the wicker basket outside Hazekamp Hall. Angels on Call - We are creating a new list of volunteers who would like to do God s work by bringing meals to members that are in need (post surgery, trauma, emergency, etc). or drive a member who need a ride to the doctor. You can contact any of the deacons and/or sign up on the volunteer list which is posted. Coffee Hour Needs: Currently coffee hour needs are paper towels, styrofoam cups along with cookies - baked or store bought. Thank you all for helping the Deacons keep the kitchen stocked! Prayer Shawl The Deacons are so happy to have this special ministry to help with their shepherding. Emergency Use of the Church Building If any person in our church family is without power, water, or heat, and needs to use the church as a safe haven, please contact your deacon shepherd so he or she can direct your need to the appropriate ministry elder(s). The Deacons are very happy to serve the members of this congregation. Please let your deacon shepherd know if he or she can help you in any way. (There is a list posted on the bulletin board in the Denniston Room if you are not sure who your deacon shepherd is.)

7 The Talking Tree Read: Colossians 1:15-20 He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross. - 1 Peter 2:24 One of the earliest Christian poems in English literature is The Dream of the Rood. The word rood comes from the Old English word rod or pole and refers to the cross on which Christ was crucified. In this ancient poem the crucifixion story is retold from the perspective of the cross. When the tree learns that it is to be used to kill the Son of God, it rejects the idea of being used in this way. But Christ enlists the help of the tree to provide redemption for all who will believe. In the garden of Eden, a tree was a source of the forbidden fruit that our spiritual parents tasted, causing sin to enter the human race. And when the Son of God shed His blood as the ultimate sacrifice for all of humanity s sin, He was nailed to a tree on our behalf. Christ bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Peter 2:24). The cross is the turning point for all who trust Christ for salvation. and ever since the crucifixion, it has become a remarkable symbol that represents the sacrificial death of the Son of God for our deliverance from sin and death. The cross is the inexpressibly wonderful evidence of God s love for us. Lord, may my heart give You praise whenever I see a cross, for You gave Yourself for me in love Christ gave His life on the tree for our salvation INSIGHT: Some experts in New Testament studies suspect that the poetic structure and inspiring thoughts of Colossians 1:15-20 reflect the lyrics of a first-century song of worship. Paul must have often sung about Jesus, the Peacemaker who changed his life by returning good for evil when He bore the sins of the world. Do you have anyone you would consider an enemy? If so, you probably know why Jesus s example stands in such contrast to our normal human inclinations. The God who created and sustains the cosmos is the same God who chose to reconcile Himself to His enemies. Rather than turning on those who had done such evil to Him, our resurrected Creator reached out to say, I still love you. Come to me. Trust me, and I will forgive you and adopt you into my eternal family. --Our Daily Bread With blessings of love from the Nurture Ministry
