3 We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Call to Worship Time of silence Sisters and Brothers, we gather to worship our Creator and Redeemer. We gather to give thanks and praise to the one who sets us free. To be fully free, we know we need forgiveness. Forgive us, Lord, for what we have said and done and for what we have not said and not done. Forgive us for not trusting you and allowing fear to rule. Forgive us for the divisions we create and for not sharing your light and love with others. Hear us as we offer our silent confession. Almighty and most merciful God, We are thankful that your mercy is higher than the heavens, wider than our wanderings, deeper than all our sin. People of God, hear the Good News. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven and set free. Thanks be to God. We are forgiven and freed! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. 3

6 Holy Gospel Matthew 5:43-48 Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said, You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Praise to you, O Christ. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. 8 The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen We believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the bread and wine and grants us the gift of God s grace and forgiveness. All are welcome to receive this gift. 10 Post-Communion Prayer Holy and loving God, you have refreshed us with these healing gifts of bread and wine that have been transformed into your very presence. May we be transformed into your body as we seek to serve your kingdom. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen Benediction The Lord bless you and keep you. Upcoming Sunday Worship Music in the Sanctuary July 17 Julie Conzemius, soloist Julie, a member of St. Andrew s Choir, sang in the Gustavus Adolphus College Choir, has sung with Minnesota Opera, and solos with many organizations. She teaches music at Mahtomedi Middle School. Plus St. Andrew s Summer Choir July 24 Vox Nova Chorale; Vicki Peters, director Vox Nova Chorale is an educational summer choir of singers from 8 different colleges who work with mentors on singing, conducting, and composing. They have concerts the next weekend at St. Mary s Chapel in St. Paul, Celebrating Women Composers. July 31 The River City Chorale The River City Chorale is a large non-auditioned music organization based in Hudson, Wisconsin. The organization is comprised of youth choir, The Ensemble Singers (auditioned adult choir) and the large non-auditioned choir. The River City Chorale is a non-profit 501c3 that provides exceptional musical experiences to communities throughout the St. Croix River Valley. Andrew Haase is the founding artistic director and conductor. Aug. 7 Barbary Coast Dixieland Band In 1984, the band started playing Dixieland church services for their own churches. Over the past 25 years they have regularly provided this musical ministry involving over 40 Sundays each year. Their mission is to Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord, and their music provides an uplifting experience for both the musicians and the congregation. 11
