PARISH NEWS Fond Remembrance on October 29th In advance of All Souls day, we will be honoring all of our loved ones who have gone before us next week-end, Sunday October 29th, with a special ceremony

You will have an opportunity to write the name(s) of a special loved one who you wish to remember and honor on a remembrance card, which will be displayed on the Cross of Christ in the Narthex during

TURKEY SUNDAY It has become a tradition here at SJN to have a special collection preceding Thanksgiving to help Light of Life with their Thanksgiving Basket Ministry. The baskets contain food to feed a family of 4 - turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans & corn, rolls & pumpkin pie. The estimated cost per basket per family is $50. SJN will be collecting funds for Turkey Sunday, along with our regular monthly collection, Nov. 4 & 5. The collection box will be in the back of the church after all Masses. As we are so fortunate in our parish, thank you for your generosity in helping those in need. MADE FOR CHANGE As we all think about the changes coming for our Parish, we continue to get comfortable with the idea that God designed us for change. On Monday, October 23rd, at 7 pm we welcome Fr. John Marcucci. He s a dynamic and entertaining spiritual speaker who will share stories of important life changes found in Scripture. As we know, all Scripture has meaning for our lives, so we invite you to come and be reassured by God s word that not only is change good, but he destined us to make it great! Bring a friend from another parish! Light refreshments served. POWER STRUGGLE Power struggles occur on every level of society, from the world stage to relationships at work, to our own homes. We struggle for position in the hierarchy of power: Who has power over whom? How do they wield it? What is the source of that power? What is the healthy response? In this Sunday s Gospel reading the Pharisees engage Jesus in a power struggle over whether Jews should show tribute to Caesar by paying taxes. Jesus response puts this and every struggle for power into perspective. In harmony with the words of Isaiah and Paul, Jesus teaches us that God is the ultimate source of all power - the power of earthly rulers, the Pharisees, Jesus, the Church, and the power within ourselves. It also reveals that we are all sisters and brothers in the family of faith and heirs to the kingdom of God. On Mission for The Church Alive! is our opportunity to build up and strengthen the family of faith in the Diocese of Pittsburgh as we look for ways to extend our hearts to each other as God extends his heart to us. Of course, family relationships aren t always perfect and can take hard work to grow stronger. We will have to work hard to strengthen the family of faith in our parishes, but it will be worth it as we journey together towards God s kingdom. Get to know those who sit near you at Mass, who gather in fellowship after Mass or even people from churches near you and allow your heart to expand in love.
