Bishop Zubik will be the main celebrant and a light reception will follow in the Cathedral Hall. In the mystery of the Transfiguration Jesus reveals to his disciples that he is the Son of God and that he will come again in glory at the end of the age. Yet, this magnificent sight occurs only after Jesus tells his followers that they must take up their crosses in order to follow him. Jesus wants us to share in his glory, while at the same time encourages us to be prepared for the challenges that arise along the way. Join Bishop David Zubik in prayer and worship at one of the On Mission for The Church Alive! Summer Sessions and continue to prepare your heart for the big changes that will soon take place in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The changes may challenge us, but we trust in the work of the Holy Spirit to provide the gifts and resources for the Church to grow and thrive. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more. SJN CHOIR It s time for a new choir season to begin, and there s lots of exciting things happening in the music ministry program. Below is the info for the adult choir, high school age and up! There s also the Resurrection Choir ministry, that sings for funeral masses as the need arises. Something new we are trying, is one Sunday a month, we will invite anyone who wants to sing with the choir to join us for a familiar song or anthem. Those Sundays, we will meet 30 minutes prior to the start of Mass. Please talk with Jessica Bucci or Jeff Jezerc if you are interested. First rehearsal: August 31 Rehearsals start at 7pm every Thursday last until 8:30pm First Sunday: September 10, 11:30am 9:30am masses, rehearse at 9am 11:30am masses, rehearse at 11am GOOD SHEPHERD GOOD SHEPHERD The new school year is just around the corner and so is the beginning of our Good Shepherd year! Regular sessions begin the week of September 18 th. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is open to children beginning at the age of 3! If you have not yet registered, you must do so ASAP! We have 30 sessions of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd this year, which means we need a catechist and an aide for each session as well as hall monitors. These words of Pope Francis remind us of the challenge and opportunity facing the Catholic Church in the US. We all know we are called to be disciples - followers and sharers in the Good News. An intentional disciple is someone who is shining, glowing, in love with the Lord - let s be full of joy and invite someone to come and see what the church offers. Say a prayer and reach out to open the doors of God s house. Then come with them on Sept. 17 (new date) at 7 pm- Sunday evening for wine and cheese and the new beginning of a faith journey. It takes you to be intentional now! BAPTISM PREP - TODAY If you ve been blessed with new life in your family, by birth or adoption, consider the best gift of all for them - being named in God s special family, the Church. Baptism welcomes us into this community of love. Our next Baptism prep session is TODAY, Sunday, August 20 from 10:30 till Noon. Our Baptism prep sessions for the Fall 2017 are Sept. 17, October 15, Nov. 19 and Jan. 21, Register thru the Rel. Ed. office, ext. 12. MARRIAGE PREP Without a doubt, marriages needs preparation. Sure the wedding takes up most of our time but don t forget the sacrament. It s what we re going to need. If you or someone you know is planning to get married this winter or next year, tell them about our marriage prep at SJN. We have a great team, a great pastor and a great space so pass on the date, NOVEMBER 11, and tell them to register online. Marriage also takes prayer. Let s pray especially for those receiving the sacrament and those trying to live it! CONFIRMATION INFORMATION We ve got great things planned to help our Confirmation candidates get ready for Confirmation. Please mark these dates in your family calendar. Sunday, August 27th 10am 4pm Confirmation Retreat Martina Center, West View All candidates are expected to attend with parents/ sponsors/families joining us for Sunday Mass at 3 pm. St. Bartholomew was one of the 12 Apostles and we are grateful that he followed the Lord and shared the Good News with us. TERESA OF AVILA PROGRAM St. Teresa of Avila is again hosting the Women of Grace Foundational Study Program, "Full of Grace: Women and the Abundant Life. Discover the gift of authentic femininity, holiness of life, and God's awesome purpose and mission for you in the world today. Women of Grace is perfect for ALL women, no matter where you are in your faith journey. Meetings will be held on Mondays at 9:45 am following the 9 am Mass on in the Daily Mass Chapel, beginning Sept. 11 th. It encourages them to listen and participate at their level and to respond with prayer. Our LOWC ministers use imaginative and enjoyable ways to teach song, story and activity.
