3 PARISH NEWS See you at the Parish Picnic! Today, Sept. 7 at 3 pm Blueberry Hill Park TECH, TECH & MORE TECH It s everywhere! Even wonder how much the technology that surrounds us impacts relationships? We know how it can help us learn, keep in touch, meet people, etc. Larry Badaczewski has researched and experienced the many aspects of technology and us. He s willing to share this wealth of info with us - teens, parents and interested adults on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 pm. Tell your friends and come! Good info for tech wizards and tech beginners young and old! EVER WONDER? Do you ever wonder what the Catholic Church holds for you? Do you come to church and want to ask questions about what we are doing? Anyone not baptized or baptized in another faith tradition is invited to explore what the church offers. We would love to walk this faith journey with you. Please come and see! Any questions, call Barb Stokes at ext. 13. Our next informal session will be Sunday, September 28 at 10 am in Conf. Room A. CORRECTION NEEDED During the past few months, the staff has been frequently sending out blasts with information that we feel you need to know before you come to Mass on the week-end. We have had recent problems with parishioners NOT receiving s sent from our parish database. To correct this problem, please add notifications@ondemandmail.com to your address book so that future SJN s will not go to your Spam Folder. 31 Club The Diocesan Office for Priestly Vocation has launched a new initiative called The 31 Club to encourage an increase in vocations to the priesthood. The 31 Club is for anyone who recognizes the importance of priestly vocations and wants to do something about it. The idea behind the 31 Club is that one person in each parish takes responsibility to pray one rosary on a specific day of the month solely for the intention of an increase in priestly vocations in our diocese. Therefore, it is a commitment to prayer to pray 12 rosaries a year. October is the month of the Rosary and we hope to get The 31 Club launched on October 1st. I am looking for at least 31 people to answer this call for prayers. If you are willing to join this effort, contact me at annemallampalli@comcast.net with your preferred day of each month. I can also be reached on my cell phone at Thanks! Anne Mallampalli MARRIAGE PREP Weddings take a lot of planning but they only last a day. Help your marriage last a lifetime by setting time aside now for a marriage prep class. October 25, Saturday, is the next all day session we have scheduled at SJN. You do not have to belong to SJN to come to this marriage prep session. Please put it on your schedule and register for the class. Call the Religious Education office to register X12. Forms and info can be found online. Thanks for including the church in your "big event". APPALACHIA Thinking about it? Dates are June 28 through noon July 4. You must be a current sophomore or older. SMALL FAITH SHARING GROUPS FOR FALL Next week is Sign-up Sunday/Weekend for At Prayer with Mary, the program that will be used as our Beyond Renew focus this Fall. Small faith sharing groups will gather to learn, pray, and share on the example of the Blessed Mother, the first disciple of Jesus. Please join us once a week for seven weeks to grow closer to Jesus by growing closer to his mother, and connect with others as we journey in faith. Share faith and friendship as groups gather to form small faith communities within the larger parish community. Sign Up Sunday will be the weekend of September There is a variety of options available as to meeting days and times. All ages are invited to join, the diversity within the groups enhances the small faith sharing experience If you have questions about the program, groups, etc., you may contact Linda Young (412)
4 Dear New Friends at St. John Neumann, I am so thrilled to be your new Music Minister, thank you for making me feel so welcome! A little bit about myself - I am a Pittsburgh native, I grew up in the Bellevue area and now reside in Crafton. I am a student at Duquesne University majoring in Sacred Music, this is my final year! I attended Duquesne for two years right after graduating from Northgate High School, and after an 8 year hiatus, returned to finish my Bachelor s Degree. In addition to working at SJN, I teach private piano lessons and I also sing in the Pittsburgh Compline Choir at Heinz Chapel. There are many opportunities for parishioners to be a part of Music Ministry at SJN! The Choir will meet starting on Thursday, September 4 at 7:30pm for weekly rehearsals, and will sing at 9:30 and 11:30 Masses, alternating weeks. The Resurrection Choir will meet for an as-needed basis to sing for funerals. There is also opportunity to be a cantor, however often you would like to participate. New members are welcome to these groups! If you would like to sing, but are unable to commit to one of these groups, there is also opportunity to sing a solo, duet, or a small group during any of the Masses. Other great opportunities include playing an instrument, either accompanying a Psalm, Choir Anthem, etc., or even playing a solo/duet during any Mass. Many of the mass parts, anthems, hymns, and psalms have instrumental parts already written, instruments add so much more to the worship experience. If you are interested in any of these things, please come and talk to me! I am at church every day except for Tuesday, please come to the choir room or come chat with me at the organ after Mass, I will do my best to learn names quickly! You can also me at jbaier@stjohnneumannpgh.org.on Sunday, September 21 at 3pm, I am giving a recital as part of the Heinz Chapel Concert Series, I hope you will try and attend! May God bless our parish and our music ministry.
