3 PARISH NEWS BLESSING OF PETS - OCTOBER 8 The Feast of St. Francis, October 4, reminds us of the special love for animals and creation. All animal lovers and their pets are invited to come for a special blessing of pets on Sunday, October 8 at 1 pm outside the front of the church. Come to the front of the church with your pet on a leash or in a cage and don t be late - blessing is short and pets don t wait very well! You can also come without a pet just to pray with us. The 2nd collection today is for the victims of Hurricane Irma. Thank you for your support! RENEW Groups begin this week of October 1 and continue for six weeks. If you missed sign-up weekend but would still like to join a group, please contact Ginger Hixenbaugh, (412) or hixenbaugh4@verizon.net. RCIA - QUESTIONS FOR US? Anyone who has questions about our Catholic faith and traditions is especially invited to give us a call. What are the things you wonder about as we come together to worship? How do you see your journey with the Lord? Please consider asking and we ll try to come together to explore the answers with you. The door is open for RCIA Inquiry right now. Call Barb Stokes, Fr. Al or Bill/Rita Romig. We d love to hear from you. Our next formal meeting with be Thursday, October 5 at 7 pm. GOD S WAYS In the stream of readings during this portion of Ordinary Time one week s texts can often appear to pick up exactly where the previous week s concluded. The sentiments expressed in today s first reading seem to be a direct reaction to the Gospel passage we heard last week. In that Gospel, the landowner pays the same wages to his workers whether they worked for a full day or for only a few minutes. Today Ezekiel gives us the lament, The LORD s way is not fair! (Ezekiel 18:25). These Sundays in Ordinary Time offer us a glimpse into the ways of the Lord. We see how God s way has the tendency to turn the accepted conventions of the day upside down. Those who always expected that their way to heaven was guaranteed are disappointed. Those who thought they never had a chance are given that chance. Today offers us another opportunity to discover the abundance of God s mercy and love. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. STEPHENS MINISTRY CONTINUES Our Stephen Ministers are putting their skills and compassion to work caring for people in our parish. Have you thought that perhaps God is calling participate in this ministry? If so, your opportunity has arrived. A new training class will begin on January 9, If you would like to participate in this training and this ministry, contact Deacon Rick at x23 or send to stephenministrysjn@gmail.com. STEPHEN MINISTRY Prayers available after all Masses THIS weekend. Going through a tough time emotionally or spiritually? Struggling with a crisis in life? Or simply feeling down? MADE FOR CHANGE Bring a friend and come to Monday School on October 9 at 7 pm in the Youth Room. School is not just for the kids! Share this time of growing in faith with Jane Rahenkamp as she reflects on the wonder and grace and challenge of Career Changes! Some of us would say Been there, done that so the question is how do I do it well and with God. Come and be inspired too! GOOD SHEPHERD WELCOME BACK! We had a great first week of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd! This week all levels of Good Shepherd spent time learning or remembering what life in the atrium is like. We talked about the Holy Bible and the joy found in silent and communal prayer. It is so great to have everyone back in the atria. We even had perfect attendance for all levels one day! Can t wait to see everyone this week. SACRAMENTAL CONFIRMATION INFORMATION Please mark these dates in your family calendar. If you would like to participate, please sign up at COMPLETE JOY As we read in his letter to the Philippians today, Saint Paul shares that his joy is complete when they are united in heart. It is a discouragement against envy and competition and an encouragement for humility and service. To be united in heart and one as the Body of Christ is always our mission as the Church. This task becomes even more essential as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! There is no doubt the Church will be made stronger as we unite our human, pastoral, spiritual and financial resources and form vibrant parishes throughout the diocese. The challenge is to place our focus not on ourselves, but on our neighbors and our new communities that they may be alive in faith and in the love of God. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. MAGNIFICAT PITTSBURGH PRAYER BREAKFAST Oct. 28 from 9 am to Noon DoubleTree by Hilton, Cranberry Twp. 5 ENDING THE DEATH PENALTY Monday, Sept. 11 at 7 pm; Kearns Spirituality Center Karen Clifton will address the concept of restorative justice, which views crime as a violation of people harmed by criminal acts, rather than crime as simply a violation of the law.
