Thank you for your help! SHARED PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE This Thanksgiving how will you give thanks to the Lord? It may be with family or friends with whom we have been blessed. This year we are asking the people of SJN to leave Wednesday evening - Thanksgiving Eve available to attend a larger Thanksgiving Service in conjunction with Ingomar United Methodist Church & Northmont Presbyterian Church. This year the service will begin at 7:30 pm on November 22 at Northmont Presbyterian Church. The choirs of the three churches will join in leading the singing. All are invited to come. We have all received many blessings and gifts for which we need to give thanks. Mass on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 will be at 10 am at SJN and we invite you to come and give thanks with your faith family through the Eucharist - which means to give thanks. SUPPORT ELDERLY RELIGIOUS A parishioner writes, As a Catholic school student from grades K-12, I was formed to be the person I am by many religious brothers and sisters, and I am forever grateful. Show your appreciation for the senior Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests who made a positive difference in so many lives. This appeal benefits 32,000 elderly Catholic religious whose religious congregations lack adequate retirement funding. Last year, the Diocese of Pittsburgh contributed $480, to the collection. Please give generously to next week s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Thank you all so much for remembering me on my birthday. It was a wonderful celebration in the fact that so many sent me a card and gifts of food. It was greatly appreciated! Fr. Thank you for your generous support. WISDOM We consider wisdom today. The first reading from the book of Wisdom presents this precious gift as a feminine spirit, a very desirable virtue sought by many and graciously present to all who seek her. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable to illustrate wisdom in a practical, measurable way. The wise will conserve their resources, use them prudently, and mark the passing of time. The foolish, on the other hand, not planning ahead, will be in the dark. Both of these readings tell us how accessible wisdom is to all who simply and honestly seek it. Paul's words to the Thessalonians are not about wisdom, but describe one result of true wisdom: To the wise person of faith even death holds no terror. Hope to see you! Be Prepared or Be Foolish In today s Gospel, five of the virgins were ready to meet their master upon his arrival, while five were not. It is a reminder, like so many others in the Gospels, to be prepared for when the Lord comes to call us to himself. Will our hearts and lives be ready to meet the Lord and dwell with him, or will we be caught off guard and our salvation be affected? In a more temporal way, have we been preparing ourselves for the changes that are coming as part of the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative? Have we taken the time to educate ourselves about what will happen (Bishop Zubik s announcements on April 26 th, building relationships, new clergy assignments, new Mass schedules) and what will not happen (no immediate parish mergers, no immediate church closings) over the next 12 months?
