3 PARISH NEWS YEAR OF FAITH From October 11, 2012 till November 2013, our Holy Father has proclaimed a Year of Faith. Pope Benedict XVI describes this Year as "a summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord." There are many ways to keep this year focused on the Lord. Here are two suggestions... Begin to re-open the door of faith you received in Baptism by using the website and clinking on one of their links, e.g., YEAR OF FAITH VID- EOS, Y OF F SAINTS, Y OF F Q AND A, Calendar, etc etc. OR buy a Year of Faith Companion Book from Magnificat for $2.50. This little booklet contains personal prayer, study and daily reflections. It's purpose is to guide us and live the Year of Faith to the full- with the "joy and renewed enthusiasm of the encounter with Christ." Order it from the Rel Ed office now. BREAD FOR AFRICA Don't miss the opportunity to put good bread on your table and bread for others to live on. Bovard Hall will smell delicious the weekend of Oct 13/14 and your donations will go to the Catholic Relief Services to feed the starving in Africa. TOOTSIE ROLL COLLECTION Next week-end, October 13 & 14, the Knights of Columbus will be here for their annual Tootsie Roll collection for the benefit of St. Anthony s Regional School Program for exception children and the McGuire Memorial Home for handicapped children. SPIRITUAL BEYOND RENEW STILL THINKING ABOUT IT? As they say Just Do It! Sign up now - you won t be sorry. Renew starts October 7 for six weeks. An adult group gathers to read and reflect on the Sunday readings from 9:45 to 11:30 AM. It is an informal meeting and includes some history of the scripture writers and some shared experiences of Gospel living. All our experiences contain the wisdom of the God. Join us to spend some time looking for the Lord's light and voice in our busy world. No RSVP - just an open door and a welcoming place in Conference Room A. LOW GLUTEN HOSTS SJN offers low gluten hosts for those who require it. We have taken every precaution to assure you that the hosts will not be cross contaminated. Please call the Parish Office if you are interested in receiving these hosts. Would like to have them receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick? Simply make your intention known to the patient s nurse. Without any one priest assigned as a chaplain at most hospitals in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, ALL hospitals are provided with a PROTOCAL to serve Catholic patients. The process begins with informing the floor nurse of your desire to have a patient anointed. The nurse is responsible for contacting the unit clerk (or tech), who contacts the operator at the switchboard, who will contact the chaplain who will make arrangements for the patients to be seen by a Catholic priest. This priest will likely not be your parish priest. However, a parish priest is assigned to provide sacramental coverage to area hospitals every day of the year. It is imperative that this process be followed so that necessary parties are kept in the communication loop. With the fewer priests available for service in the diocese, this protocol has been worked out for the good of all. Following this procedure helps to assure that Catholics receive appropriate sacramental care while making the best use of the limited number of priests that are available. Families are encouraged to let the parish know that your loved one has been hospitalized so that they will be prayed for and a visit made when possible. When anticipating surgery, it is strongly suggested that you make a request to your parish priest to be anointed prior to your admission to the hospital. Thank you! MINISTRY ST JOHN NEUMANN PRAYER MINISTRY The St. John Neumann Ministry of Prayer is intended to motivate everyone in the St. John Neumann parish community to pray each day for parishioners and family and friends of parishioners. OKTOBERFEST The Sisters of Divine Providence 11th annual Oktoberfest is Sat., October 13 from 1-5 PM. Authentic German dinner: Adults $10, Children $5. Entertainment, bake and craft sale and children s activities will all be available. DIVORCED, WIDOWED, OR SEPARATED? The loss of a spouse through separation, divorce or death is a most traumatic experience. The Beginning Experience week-end is intended to help widowed, divorced, separated folks who would like to pass through the grief and begin to move forward with their lives. Come to a safe place. Travel from heartache to hope. The next weekend will be held October at the Gilmary Center in Moon Twp.
