Let your "presence" be one of your gifts to Jesus this year by sharing the joy of Christmas carols with the elderly! Join a group of SJN individuals and families as we continue the tradition of singing with local seniors on December 23rd. Meet at SJN at 5pm (or join in later as you are able) and then finish off the evening at Bovard Hall at 7pm for a potluck dinner. You will not regret taking the time to spread the love of Christ to those who are most isolated during Christmas. Make it an annual part of your family celebration! The liturgical celebration of the Fourth Sunday of Advent and the Vigil of the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas Eve) occur on the same day this year, December 24, This presents many challenges to priests, parishioners and choirs, not the least of which are the many Masses compacted into a short span of two or three days. Because of the unique character of these celebrations, the faithful have an obligation to take part in both the Fourth Sunday of Advent and Christmas by participating in separate Masses for each. At St John Neumann this year the Masses on the Fourth Sunday of Advent morning will only have opening and closing hymns for music (so that the choir and musicians can be ready for the Christmas Eve Masses). These will be shorter Sunday Masses but important celebrations for the church in our Christmas preparations. Looking forward to seeing you there. Fr. Al ART & ENVIRONMENT Creating an environment that is pleasant, welcoming and reflective of our beautiful liturgical seasons is important. If you have a flair for decorating, or even just have a hand to lend, consider becoming part of the environment team. We will begin decorating for Christmas on Dec. 17 after the 11:30 Mass. Please come & help! NEWS OF COMFORT In a time of preparation, much of it having to do with material things, it is good to hear the words of Isaiah, Comfort, give comfort to my people, / says your God (Isaiah 40:1). In a time of such stress and rush, when our usual burdens are augmented by piles of Christmas preparations, we can choose to slow down, take some time to heal, and appreciate the enormous gift we are about to receive. Christ, the Son of God, has become one of us, and knows our human limitations. Yet God, even now, is freeing us from the burdens that our inattentiveness to our God and to our deepest inner longings have heaped upon us. The Lord comes, not as a king with mighty armies, but as a shepherd leading the flocks with care and tenderness. Isaiah prophesies good news: our oppression is over, our sins forgiven. Many do not want to participate in the charities that we support through the Sharing Tree program. Through a local homeless ministry, we have been able to get info on about 35 families that need help.

Many do not want to participate in the charities that we support through the Sharing Tree program. The amazing thing about these families is no matter how much they struggle, they want to do the right thing and support each other. Although family sizes range from three people to as many as twelve, we look to match a family to your requested size. We request adopt a family gifts be returned no later than December 18 (1 week AFTER sharing tree gifts).
