1 The Trinitarian Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, Newton, Kansas October 2015 From the Pastor WOW! Yes, that is what we call our Wednesday evenings; Welcome on Wednesday. WOW I hope you are inviting someone to eat with you to come with you and enjoy the meal. I am really enjoying the meals and the chance to visit with people. It is great to have good food and to see the people enjoy eating together. I hope we are all saying Thank You to Jean for cooking such great meals. Next week the RELAY FOR LIFE GROUP is cooking spaghetti with garlic bread and a salad -- should be a great meal. Check out the menus and come, eat and talk together. Thanks for all the work having children and youth programming and, of course, great choir music. It is so much fun being your pastor. We begin our stewardship campaign soon. DESSERT FIRST. Giving first to God is a lot like eating dessert first- it's not a reasonable thing to do. Reason tells us to take care of our practical needs first and give God what is left. Dessert first will help us live into the joy of giving; the joy we feel when we eat dessert first. Phil Fisher is coming to kick off our stewardship campaign on October 18. It should be a great day of worship and a chance to say hello and talk with Phil. If you don't know Phil he pastored when the church built the sanctuary we worship in at 9:00am, the newer part of the church. Lastly, if you haven't been to see WAR Room you need to see this movie it is a tremendous teaching tool about the power of prayer. It is a great movie! See you Sunday for a great worship together. Pastor Donna Dinner is better when we eat together!

SALVATION ARMY FOR OCTOBER Salvation Army had some new requests this month. She said they are having increased numbers of homeless come by and they need non-perishable snack and desert items (like crackers, granola bars, etc) to give them and also to put in for families. They need all the tomatoes products in cans as well as canned vegetable and fruits. There is always the need for peanut butter & jelly and cereal. So please put any of these items in the grocery basket outside the sanctuary or in the plastic containers outside fellowship hall. Thank You, Mission Committee WANT TO HAVE BETTER COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR SPOUSE? WANT TO RENEW YOUR MARRIAGE? WANT TO DISCOVER SOMETHING NEW ABOUT EACH OTHER? Then the upcoming Marriage Encounter Weekend may be the answer! We will be meeting at the Best Western in Park City on Nov (Friday eve. Sunday late afternoon). Lead by a Certified team of 2 Lay couples and a Clergy couple, we share from our own experiences in areas of communication, finances, relationships with others, difference between thoughts and feelings, God and the church, and other things as well. Couples of any age will gain from the experience. If you are interested or have further questions, contact Harlan &/or Judy Rittgers ASAP (call ). You can register on line at
4 We want to thank all of you who contributed to the Health Kits. We will still have tables in the halls this Sunday, Sept 27, to collect funds to help purchase supplies for these kits. The women will be assembling them at the church on the evening of Thursday, Oct 1. We will take these kits to the Great Plains Conference UMW Annual Meeting on Oct 16 & 17. It will be held at St Mark s Church in Wichita. They will be put in the Distribution Centers to help when needed. We will report the number we made in next month s article. We are busy planning for the Bazaar to be held on Nov 7. There will be the usual large assortment of chocolate and many booths. We will have a UMW Booth and you are welcome to bring some handiwork to sell in that booth. The money we make from the Bazaar goes to local helping agencies. We began our monthly Circle meetings in Sept. We enjoyed our time together and invite anyone to join us on the 2 nd Mon eve or 3 rd Wed morn or on our E-circle list to receive information. Please contact me at if you want any further information on our activities. God Bless, Judy Rittgers, President ALZHEIMER S SUPPORT GROUP MEETS Asbury Park Judy and I plus Merrill Reber are cofacilitators of the newly forming Alzheimer s Support Group. They have had a Group at Presbyterian Manor for some time, but wanted to have a new group meeting at Asbury Park. We have agreed to serve as conveners. We meet each month on the THIRD 3 p.m. in the Lakeside Lounge (NW corner of the new Assisted Living Bldg.). It s a time to share with others who are dealing with loved ones, neighbors, friends, or yourself with Alzheimer s disease or Dementia. We are there for you to help us all understand more fully ways we can cope, learn more about the disease, raise questions, share insights and, most of all, realize that we are not alone! We meet for about an hour. You are welcome to join us at the next meeting on OCTOBER 16 or NOVEMBER 20 or DECEMBER 18. Harlan Rittgers Friends - Thank you so much for helping us collect school supplies for our kids. Thanks to your congregations generosity, we were able to collect enough supplies to ensure all our kids started the school year with everything they need. Please pass on our gratitude to everyone at Trinity Heights UMC. Blessings, Victor Youthville / Ember Hope Your kind expression of sympathy is deeply appreciated and gratefully acknowledged.
